FIRST AID FOR NOSEBLEEDS

1. Lean forward
2. Breathe through mouth
3. Pinch soft down part of nose with thumb & forefinger
4. Hold for 10 to 20 minutes
5. Go to hospital if bleeding fails to stop or patient is not stable from the start.

A thread 🧵

If bleeding from the nose, don't lean backwards! LEAN FORWARD instead.

This is to avoid blood running down your throat and possibly choking you.
Second, if bleeding from the nose, don't breathe through your nose! OPEN YOUR MOUTH WIDE and breathe through it instead.

This is to avoid choking.
Next, if bleeding from your nose, don't lie down! You can SIT UP or STAND UP, and lean four head forward.

If you lie down, the blood can flow backwards and cause serious airway problems.
Also, if bleeding from the nose, don't pick, rub, or blow your nose.

Instead, just pinch the SOFT PART of your nose. (Remember the lower soft part of your nose, not the upper hard part)

Picking, rubbing or blowing your nose hard can worsen your nosebleeds significantly.
Finally, ALWAYS see your doctor if;

• the nosebleed was caused by a trauma such as impact from a punch, road accident, fall, etc

• you're taking medicines to prevent blood clotting

• you've had a nosebleed that needed specialist treatment in the past
But if the nosebleed started on its own, follow the above steps to stop it.

Remember, there are many causes of nosebleeds which we will talk about in another thread.

Just stay tuned.

HOW TO GIVE FIRST AID TO HOUSEHOLD POISONING VICTIMS

If you see someone poisoned with household items like bleach, fuel, kerosene, acid, drugs or fumes, you can give them this first aid to prevent death before arrival of medical help.

A thread 🧵

RT to save a life
Household poisoning is a common reason kids are taken to a hospital's accident and emergency.

As an adult, it's extremely crucial that you to know what to do from the time when you suspect someone is poisoned to the time medical care arrives.
So let's get started.

Once a person is poisoned by any substance, the first aid to give them depends on two major things;

• The type of poison, and
• Whether the poison is on their skin, eyes, inhaled or swallowed

ABNORMAL NIPPLE DISCHARGE

Some people don't breastfeed, but discharge milk from their nipples esp. when touched. This is called #galactorrhea!

On it's own, it's not a disease. But it could be a sign of an underlying disease that needs treatment.

Thread 🧵

RT for awareness
Have you seen someone who is not breastfeeding discharging milk from their nipples before?
Yeah, so #galactorrhea occurs mostly in women who have been pregnant before and are between 20 and 35 years.

But it can also happen in women of all ages, children and even men (yes, men can discharge breast milk from their tiny nipples too!😊)

Stop abusing steroids to build muscles.
Stop abusing steroids to enhance performance.

When your body is exposed to excess #steroids for a long time it can lead to Cushing's syndrome, a horrible condition.

A thread 🧵

RT for awareness Image
Normally, Cushing's syndrome occurs when your body is exposed to high levels of the hormone #cortisol for a long time.

But most steroid medications have the same effect on your body as cortisol.

So, when you take excess steroids over time, it can lead to Cushing's syndrome.
Cushing's syndrome can also occur when your body makes too much cortisol on its own (like in certain tumors of your pituitary gland or adrenal problems).

But taking or injecting steroid medications (exogenous steroids) is the single most common cause of this horrible condition. Image

Dear ladies, I heard some of you drink salt and water immediately after sex to "flush a man's sperm out of her system"! This can not prevent pregnancy.

There are better things to do, pls stop harming your body! 🤕

RT for awareness Image
Also, taking

• Cod liver oil tablets after sex
• Ginseng tea after sex
• Hot water baths after sex
• 4 to 5 paracetamol tablets after sex
• Andrews liver salt after sex
• Dry gin after sex

This is all rubbish. None can prevent pregnancy!
Most of these substances you take can go straight into your digestive system and hurt your body badly. Pls stop harming your body.

If you want to prevent a pregnancy after sex, use emergency contraceptives.
