Parents, are you a source of #cortisol & #catecholamines for your kids or #dopamine, #oxytocin, and #serotonin? If it’s the former, then don’t call their teenage years “rebellion” when they struggle with drug/alcohol abuse, addictions to food/porn/tech, etc. & are never home.
The data on the neurobiology & neurochemistry of parenting is clear. I’ve been in the religious world my entire life & I’ve never heard leaders teach about effects of parenting on a child’s brain. I have heard legalistic emphasis, however, on “obedience.”
So clear. “Boy Crisis”…

I don't have to tell you that life is getting more expensive. And with all the stress, #hearthealth is worse than ever.

Removing stress entirely just isn't feasible -but it's critical to manage stress to protect your health, heart, and metabolic wellness.

Here's How:
The cost-of-living crisis affects more than just your money. If you allow stress to control your life, it will quickly control your health as well.

Excess stress in the body has been associated with:
1️⃣High blood cholesterol
2️⃣High blood sugar
There is no magic pill, supplement, or medicine you can take to reduce the effects of #cortisol on your heart.

The only solution is to implement stress reduction techniques:

increasing your exercise
avoiding cheap food
finding outlets for stress

Sehr geehrte Frau Baerbock,

Our #residents got to learn about #syncope & #adrenalinsufficiency today from Rising Chief @LizzyHastie, Chief @photon_ick, & Endo-enthusiast @tsantoscavaiola!!

Check out some highlights below we wanted to make sure we shared with our #MedEd peeps on #MedTwitter!! Image
Don’t forget about adrenal insufficiency!! For patients with things like #syncope or #hypotension, it’s easy to forget about cortisol as a cause! While things like dehydration, infection, & other things may be more common overall… AI is #treatable, so make sure you catch it!!
Primary AI = #adrenal glands themselves are the problem. This means #cortisol AND #aldosterone will be low, while #ACTH AND #Renin will be very elevated in attempt to remedy this! Image

Stop abusing steroids to build muscles.
Stop abusing steroids to enhance performance.

When your body is exposed to excess #steroids for a long time it can lead to Cushing's syndrome, a horrible condition.

A thread 🧵

RT for awareness Image
Normally, Cushing's syndrome occurs when your body is exposed to high levels of the hormone #cortisol for a long time.

But most steroid medications have the same effect on your body as cortisol.

So, when you take excess steroids over time, it can lead to Cushing's syndrome.
Cushing's syndrome can also occur when your body makes too much cortisol on its own (like in certain tumors of your pituitary gland or adrenal problems).

But taking or injecting steroid medications (exogenous steroids) is the single most common cause of this horrible condition. Image
