Here’s the current plan for the Brampton Gateway Terminal @HurontarioLRT terminus at Steeles Avenue.
Pedestrians connecting between LRT and @BramptonTransit buses will have to cross one of Peel’s busiest intersections to make the transfer.
Including nine lanes of Steeles Ave.
The LRT stop was supposed to go on the north side of Steeles Avenue, where crosswalks on the north and south side of the platforms would have made bus connections much easier and safer.
But in a problematic 5-4 decision, the old council voted to turn down 4 kilometres of provincially funded LRT that would have continued to Downtown Brampton and the GO Station placate Main Street residents and downtown, including former premier Bill Davis.
That old council instead began playing transit planner, promoting longer, slower LRT routes to downtown and instructing @Metrolinx to terminate the LRT on the south side of Steeles to allow for their own route ideas.
A tunnel under the intersection to connect the LRT and bus terminals was proposed, but was later cut because of the cost of digging it out and moving utilities.
Here’s another image of the proposed unnel, showing potential alternative LRT routes.
In 2018, Brampton elected a younger, more diverse council who reversed direction, re-endorsing a Main Street alignment for the LRT. But @Metrolinx, by this point, pushed ahead with the south side terminus.
Brampton would have to study and finance an LRT extension on its own.
So, because of an old decision to placate a few homeowners, thousand will have to cross this busy and dangerous intersection.
Bramptonians – who constantly get the short end of the stick – need to sound the alarm.
Ain't no school bus (ain't no school bus)
Ain't no streetcar (ain't no streetcar)

The shuttle bus (the shuttle bus)!
Gimme confirmation of my information

Well, I start to cuss on the McCowan bus
And you can't go far on the College Street car
You know the GO train is a real pain
And the LRT—that's not for me
Well, you can't have fun on the York U run
And the Eglinton West trolley is just a big folly…

Well, I don't give a damn ‘bout the Bathurst tram
So I'll make a fuss about shuttle bus!

How long has the public space in front of Toronto Police Headquarters been barricaded off from the public?
I deputed before the Police Services Board here last year. I felt it was an unnecessarily intimidating experience, starting with the metal detector search upon entering, and the boardroom full of uniformed cops. You felt like you aren’t wanted.
Once public meetings start again, TPSB meetings should be held in a friendlier environment. City Hall Council Chambers would be an improvement over the College Street fortress
A thread on old Brewers Retail locations in Northern Ontario.
Unlike the south, most Beer Store locations in the North still have the retro orange signs.
But there’s something more interesting about these stores…
1/
We’ll start with the main North Bay store: note it’s not in the main shopping area, but outside of downtown on the old highway, behind, there’s a railway. 2/
The map in the article also shows hot spots Rexdale, Malton, and northeast Scarborough. NE Scarborough also has many food production plants, warehouses, and a major depot where precarious workers pick up your Amazon orders.
Hundreds of rented cargo vans depart daily from a depot on McNicoll Avenue to deliver your online shopping. thestar.com/news/investiga…
