Transformational Courses Update!

Been struggling with how to make my online course transformational

My problem is a long feedback loop for course creator students

As a student, you won't see the results until you've finished your next cohort

Here's how I'm solving this 👇
How do I deliver a transformational experience in only 5 weeks?

Introducing 🔰The Curious Lion Learning Week 🔰

This will be the capstone event of the course
In 4 weeks, every student in my course will learn the necessary skills to create a course or improve an existing one - preferably a cohort-based one of their own

But the project they'll work on to learn these skills will be a 60-min workshop to showcase their content
Students will then deliver their workshops in Week 5 as part of a learning series with open registration to anyone
Attendees will get access to a smorgasbord of online course content to whet their appetite with what's available to them

My students will get to showcase their knowledge to a new audience and use the Learning Week as a lead generation tool for their own course
The kicker here is that a B2B push of the Learning Week will bridge the chasm between online course creators and corporate buyers

Companies and their employees will gain exposure to a new world of content many never knew existed

The best online course content on the market
This will inspire 1,000's to become lifelong learners when they see the breadth, depth, and quality of independent online courses

This will give online creators access to corporate buyers able to fill entire cohorts with one purchase
This will help democratize the supply of online education

A domain once thought of as the exclusive purview of colleges and universities or companies with large financial backing will now be open to creators like you

(h/t @wes_kao and @gaganbiyani and what they are building)
I've got some exciting partnerships in the works, so expect more announcements on this soon

I had the privilege over the last 4 weeks of working with @AliAbdaal and his team

With the help of 5 amazing peer supporters, we created a support system for students of his Part-Time YouTuber Academy course

Here is what I learned
1/ None of this is possible without amazing humans

Ali is a gifted teacher

He also had 4 amazing humans helping him

@lizfilips
@zoocster
@apmparker
@CharlotCrowther

You don't create transformations for ~400 students without the incredible efforts of a passionate team
2/ It takes a village

Then he added the peer supporters

@JustBhavs
@m_ashcroft
@ArcherNewton_
@yathprem
@joegannon22

Every one different

Every one a rockstar

Every one going out there way to help YouTubers wherever they are on their journey

When interviewing future students, use Socratic questioning to start a thoughtful dialogue

Allow them to examine their beliefs logically as you uncover the need and how you can help

Here are some ideas for questions
Clarification questions

– e.g., Could you give an example of…?
Implication and consequence questions

– e.g., What effect could that have?

Don't forget to measure your course ROI

I see a lot of creators leaving out this critical step

If you want to take your course seriously, consider using Kirkpatrick's model for this 👇
🔰Student reaction

Did students enjoy the course?

Deliver post-course surveys instantly upon completion to get the best response rate and, most honest, immediate responses.
🔰Student learning

Did students learn something?

Use pre-and-post course assessments to measure knowledge gain

@CharlotCrowther does an excellent job at this

When finalizing your online course, I highly recommend using Gagné's Checklist

Robert M. Gagné pioneered the science of instruction during WWII working with the Army Air Corps training pilots

Here are his 9 Events of Instruction 👇
1/

Does your experience start by grabbing the attention of the student?
2/

Does your experience inform the student of each learning outcome at the appropriate time?

Never forget you’re dealing with adults

Frame everything you do around the motivational needs of adult learners

Malcolm Knowles formulated 6 assumptions related to an adult’s motivation for learning

Adults need to know the reason for doing something
🔰 2 - Foundation

Experience (including trial and error) provides the basis for learning activities
