Huge—HHS released new on **testing and positivity and surge by COUNTY** for the first time ever!!! 🧵
1) New “RAPID RISER COUNTIES” rating:
New data released show these countries have had the fastest rise in cases in the last 2 weeks. #COVID19
2) These are the counties with the highest testing positivity per county! Nobody has ever seen these data from HHS before!
3) here are counties by the delta change of testing positivity! Wow, first I’ve ever seen this every by county before.
➡️holy crap Tennessee!
4) The new dataset shows the dashboard for every county in the US. Full excel sheets now!
5) HHS has finally released the most comprehensive #COVID19 testing and case tracking by county now. Thank you. But damnit what took them so long? Many been working like mad trying to do this at state level for months. But HHS had county data all along??? healthdata.gov/blog/covid-19-…
6) “The Community Profile Report (CPR) is generated by the Data Strategy and Execution Workgroup in the Joint Coordination Cell, under the White House COVID-19 Task Force. The data in this report provides aggregate information on the overall status of areas across the country.”
7) “It is managed by an interagency team with representatives from multiple agencies and offices within HHS (including CDC, the Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response (ASPR), and the Indian Health Service (IHS)).
8) “The CPR provides easily interpretable information on key indicators for all regions, states, core-based statistical areas (CBSAs), and counties across the United States.
9) “It is a daily snapshot that:
•Focuses on recent COVID-19 outcomes in the last 7 days and changes relative to the week prior.
•Provides additional contextual information at the county, CBSA, state and regional level.
•Supports rapid visual interpretation of results
10) here is the dataset. My god, what took them so long before they released on this?
11) Previously, all one could do (@givingmap) was graph just the cases per capita over time. But we had no data on counties or testing or positivity by county. This is a vast improvement over cases alone.
The coronavirus vaccine won’t leave a scar. But it’ll protect us and our next generation. #COVID19
2) born in a developing country, I was in the final generation to get the smallpox vaccine. The bifurcated needle scar sits on atop my deltoid as a reminder.
Smallpox vaccine has literally saved HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS OF LIVES. If you only knew life before the vaccine...
3) Many are asking about the new U.K. #SARSCoV2 mutation... here is a detailed thread 🧵 I wrote overnight that explains the latest.
2) The lower virus sensitivity of new South Africa 🇿🇦 to some antibodies mean that previously adapted antibodies may not be as effective against this new variant. These mutations were not seen in new variants in the UK and Australia.
3) We do not yet know the how it could affect vaccines. But in some ways, this is very troubling.
Mkhize (South Africa health ministers believes the already developed vaccines should still be effective against 501.V2, but though likely, that is not guaranteed just yet.
2) “Professor Whitty said there was "no current evidence to suggest the new strain causes a higher mortality rate or that it affects vaccines and treatments", but work was under way to confirm this.”
3) @JeremyFarrar, director of the Wellcome Trust, said that its existence was still "worrying and a real cause for concern. Research is ongoing to understand more, but acting urgently now is critical.”
➡️”There is **no part of the UK & globally that should not be concerned**.”
BREAKING—Faced w/ new #SARSCoV2 mutation w/ "significantly faster" transmission rates, Boris Johnson tightened #COVID19 restrictions. 🇬🇧 Chief medical officer Chris Whitty said scientists consider this new strain to *move more quickly between people*. 🧵 washingtonpost.com/world/europe/c…
2) “New mutation, or variants, was first detected in southeast England in September and is becoming more prevalent in new cases.”
But there is no evidence at this time to suggest the new strain is more deadly or able to elude vaccines designed to defeat it.
3) “We have alerted the World Health Organization and are continuing to analyze the available data to improve our understanding,”
Tragic—a mother lost **both** her sister and her 13 year old son Peyton to #COVID19. The bereaved mom took the bold step to publicly share the chilling images of her son’s blood-spattered hospital room in a bid to urge Americans to take COVID seriously. the-sun.com/news/1995186/s…
2) “Stephanie Franek, 44, watched as doctors battled to save her son Peyton Baumgarth's life as the treatment to oxygenate his blood failed.
The youngster passed away just 6 days after developing symptoms of infection when he became extremely fatigued & his nail beds turned blue.
3) The mom-of-two endured another Covid loss when her sister Cyndi Crawford, 57, died five weeks after Peyton in the ICU.
Stephanie, a nurse from St Louis, Missouri, said: "One loss would have been heartbreaking alone but these two have completely shattered our hearts."
