If there has ever been an event series that has so exposed the political system as irreformable and broken beyond repair, it is this COVID relief bill "debate".
One side (GOTP) cruel, heartless, and despicably arrogant.
The other side (Democrats) feckless, deceitful, and dense.
One side (GOTP) openly without shame advocates that people neither rich nor White should work themselves to death for free, or at least starve themselves, so that their wealthy donors can load up their portfolios and vaults with the goodies they stole from them.
The other side (Democrats) make rabid claims about how cruel and crude the Republicans are, but only exploit that just to dangle bells, whistles, and carrots in the faces of their marks...ahhh, I mean, constituents, only to snatch them away for their own political machines.
And throughout this, those few who are willing to take a stand for The People are still forced, or are simply willing, to settle for solutions that are meekly insignificant and woefully short of what is actually needed. Or, simply cosplaying for their own hidden agendas.
The real tragedy in all this, other than the needless mass deaths and suffering and pillerage and legalized looting, is that the real solutions are so clear and obvious, but no one wants to even open their eyes and see them.
It's so easy to yell "Get a job!!!" when you already have one that provides more than what you need to survive. It's a lot harder to give up even a little of that to help others. But, too much compassion kills mah profits, right, Gym Jordan and TeaWack Ron Johnson?

He wouldn't even allow his Houston church complex be used as shelter for victims of Hurricane Harvey, but he gets $4.4 MILLION in PPP money? And, all TAX FREE because MAH RELIGIIOUS FREEDOM??
It's also just as easy to yell "Get off that Big Guviment welfare drug and tighten your bootstraps!!!" when you are wealthy enough to USE the government to boost your own power and privilege at their expense and labor.
But remember....deficits matter, right?
You just gotta love people who talk smack about "Think of the CHILDREN!!!" when they oppose the very thought of using our government to address core issues of inequality and injustice.
Rather, they'd rather use government for things like withholding life-saving vaccines...
...from certain states simply to punish their people for not voting their way. Or, for having too much of the wrong people who just need to STFU and accept their lot as cattle and guinea pigs for the glory of the "freedom" to make the biggest profit there is.
The POTUS election is actually 50 state elections, thanks to the Electoral College. The election is considered official when all 50 states certify their votes, then meet on December 14th to make them official. Congress certifying them is more an afterthough.
You. LOST. Deal.
Even if Pence does attempt to challenge the electors on January 6th, he would still need a majority of the House AND the Senate in order to invalidate the state's slate of electors....and I don't see either side joining in on this.
In fact....even if Pence by some miracle succeeds in getting the Senate to block the electors from the offending states (MI, PA, WI, AZ), the House is majority Democrat and won't go along....and then you get Acting President Pelosi (via 22nd Amendment succession).
I really do appreciate folks who tell me that we must forever settle for half-ass deals that will still never make it, just to allow "our side" to score political brownie points....while the majority of people are left to starve, suffer, and even die.
Some of y'allz are so dense that you don't understand that even if Pelosi accepts the Mnuchun/Trumpster deal, McConnell still won't introduce it to the Senate, and it won't even get enough votes to avoid a filibuster even if he did allow it to reach the Senate floor.
The GOTP Senate has already established that they will oppose without delay ANY stimulus payment, ANY UI payment above $300 without depressing conditions, and ANY bill not including their precious business liability shield or other right-wing poison pills.
Is there any information for transportation for those wishing to evacuate but who don't have the wherewithal or funds to do so?
I'm looking out not only for potential evacuees in SWLA, but also in the Lafayette/Opelousas/Eunice/Crowley area where hurricane-force wind gusts may occur.
Apparently there is no plan by the locals to provide transportation for those not able to evac on their own...or is there?
Most parishes under the gun do have either mandatory or voluntary evacuations, but the latter are only helpful for those with their own transportation. Those who don't have such are out of luck, especially since there will be NO local shelters open due to the COVID pandemic.
OK...it's been a good while since I've done a good tweetstorm, but since it now appears that the #HEROESAct will soon be passed as the second stimulus package, it's time to talk about the #HazardPay section and how it may affect those of us #EssentialWorkers.
1/many
As far as publicity is concerned, #HazardPay has been the stepsister in the basement, at least compared to the rollicking debates over the stim checks and the $600/week fed UI extension.
But, it actually may be the most impacting for #essentialworkers down the line.
2/
Until recently, it seems that not even the parties in DC now negotiating and fighting over the details of the stim package have given #HazardPay its due analysis. Nor has the media.
