ANSWER: “The man responsible for the Christmas Day bombing in downtown Nashville has been identified, but his motive for committing suicide in such a spectacular fashion remains a mystery. It does not appear he left behind any sort of statement or manifesto outlining a grievance
narrative that would provide insight into his motive. Because of this, it is hard to classify the suicide by bomb as an act of terrorism. The suspect also provided warning of the impending explosion, allowing the authorities to evacuate people from the area,
indicating that while he wanted to end his life in a dramatic way, he did not want to take others to the grave with him. Unconfirmed media reports have indicated that the suspect told others he was suffering from cancer, which is one potential motive.
The suspect reportedly gave away his homes and car. He also constructed a fence to hide his RV from sight in an apparent effort to prevent others from seeing him work as he built the bomb inside the vehicle.
These factors indicate that he spent significant time preparing for this bombing, meaning he also had ample time to prepare a statement or manifesto outlining his grievance or cause if he had some sort of ideological motive.
This also means he specifically chose Christmas Day to end his life. Investigators will continue to search for a motive in this case, but answers to the remaining questions could prove elusive.”
