🚨🚨 Your Dec. 29 @TheWECHU update: there are 157 new cases of COVID-19 in #Windsor and #Essex today.

Two more people have died.

44 locations across the region have active outbreaks.🚨🚨
After a few days without a live YouTube @TheWECHU broadcast, it's back on today and tomorrow. Watch here:

Here are the 18 long-term care and retirement homes with active outbreaks. Seven of them have cases among staff members only.
Dr. Ahmed is presenting an epidemiological summary of data and statistics today since there was no presentation on Friday (when he would have normally presented this info).
We now have a case rate of 280 cases per 100,000 population, Ahmed said.

#Windsor #Essex has the highest percent positivity of tests in the province with more than nine per cent of local tests coming back positive.
This graph shows the transmission sources for a significant number of positive cases are still under investigation, meaning detailed interviews have not yet been performed for these individiauls. They have been contacted by public health with instructions to self-isolate, though.
1.8 per cent of local residents who tested positive have died.

74 per cent of positive cases are considered resolved, indicating they are no longer infectious. This data does not reflect how many resolved cases continue to experience lasting effects of COVID-19.
The health unit has rolled out a text new tool from the province.

If you test positive and provide a cell phone # to @TheWECHU, you will receive a text message with a link to a web page where you can easily share information about your close contacts....
This will allow the health unit to reach close contacts of confirmed cases more quickly and advise them to self-isolate, because they have likely been exposed to COVID-19 and don't know it.
With the high # of cases, reaching all close contacts has been difficult for @TheWECHU.

Your Friday @TheWECHU update: Today, there are 65 new cases of COVID-19 in Windsor-Essex. That's the highest single-day case increase of the second wave in the region. Another LTC home is in outbreak: Chartwell St. Clair Beach in Tecumseh where a resident has tested positive.
The transmission source for a whopping 58 new cases are still under investigation by public health unit staff. Five are close contacts of confirmed cases and two are attributed to community spread.
The seven-day moving average is "hitting a point we have never hit," even in the worst part of the first wave, says Medical Officer of Health Dr. Wajid Ahmed. The epi-curve is steep, which "means we are doing really badly."
