We have always said the second wave is going to be coming and the only way we will be protected is by developing herd immunity through vaccination. #VaccineStrategy

The only way of being able to deal with the #COVID19 pandemic is the provision of immunity through vaccination. We have been trying to follow what the best way is to deal with this. #VaccineStrategy

The vaccines will need to be made available quickly so that most of our citizens are
covered by the end of the first year of rollout - this year. #VaccineStrategy

We have set up structures to expedite financing, sourcing and procurement
and therefore the issue of the vaccine strategy will get undivided attention from the department and government. #VaccineStrategy

We are targeting minimum of 67% of the population to achieve herd immunity and the approach will be a phased rollout of the vaccine beginning with the most vulnerable in our population. #VaccineStrategy

Additionally we have embarked on Public Private Partnerships with very good outcomes and we have approached medical aids to be part of the co-financing.#VaccineStrategy

The process is now at a stage where the Council for Medical Schemes has engaged various medical schemes and I have signed amendments of regulations to allow for vaccines and other therapeutics to be part of the prescribed minimum benefits. #VaccineStrategy

To optimize availability of stock for ourselves we are negotiating with all the manufacturers and pursuing those who are indicating appetite to make vaccines available sooner. #VaccineStrategy

We are in sensitive discussions. I have been involved in some of these discussions and can mention a few of them, Astra Zeneca, Moderna, etc. #VaccineStrategy

28 469 South Africans are known to have succumbed to COVID-19 this year- amongst those were 436 public health care workers who paid the ultimate price in the frontline. #NYECandleLighting

Our health care workers continue to bravely fight this war even though they have been pushed beyond their call of duty. #NYECandleLighting

But we must remember that as the rate of transmission rises so too do the infections amongst health care workers rise. To date, we have recorded a cumulative 43 124 health care workers who became infected with #COVID19. #NYECandleLighting

RESPONSE TO LUCKY MONTANA’S VARIOUS MEDIA INTERVIEWS

10 November 2020

Dr Zweli Mkhize has noted media reports by Mr Lucky Montana in relation to alleged donations to the ANC during his tenure as the ANC Treasurer General.

Dr Mkhize and the ANC have previously issued statements on this matter refuting the allegations that it had appointed individuals to receive and channel monies on behalf of the ANC, flowing from the PRASA Swifambo tender.

In fact, in February 2018, Dr Mkhize also provided a statement to the Public Enterprise Parliamentary Portfolio Committee chaired by Ms Zukiswa Rantho at the time, with a statement giving a detailed account and response to these unfounded and false allegations by Mr Montana.

I wish to take this opportunity to appreciate all the well wishes that my wife and I have received from you, my fellow South Africans, colleagues and friends from all over the world.

I want to assure you that we are improving each day. I remain in quarantine at home, I am resting and recuperating with only a cough remaining from my previous symptoms.

I’m also very pleased that my wife has been discharged from hospital today and will now be joining me for quarantine at home.

In a war, when an injured soldier lies down to recover, injuries do not remove his mindset from the set goal to win the battle.
