COVID Vaccine #2 DONE!!!

I. Am. So. Relieved.

I had to wait on line to get mine despite an appointment which was AWESOME because so many people were getting it. 🙌🏻

I’m seeing the light at the end of this very long tunnel.
1/?
About 4 hours out and my arm is a bit sore, but not bad.

I’m expecting to have some more symptoms tonight and tomorrow and it’s important that you expect them too when you get your vaccine.
2/?
What I’m expecting to experience:

✅fever and/or chills
✅headache
✅body aches
✅fatigue
✅general flu-like symptoms

I welcome these symptoms w/ open arms 🤗 because it means my body is doing it’s thang & producing antibodies so that I can do my part to kick COVID’s ass! 3/?
A reminder of what this vaccine will NOT do:

❌alter your DNA
❌implant a microchip
❌infect you with the Sars-CoV-2 virus
❌cause infertility
4/?
I’m happy to continue to keep you all updated on how I’m feeling in the hopes that it normalizes the expected post vaccine symptoms and squashes some of the unnecessary fear out there.

We need as many people as possible to get this vaccine to put an end to this mess.

Trust the science and the experts!

Remain skeptical when you read one of the MANY falsehoods or conspiracy theories that will no doubt be floating around social media.

1/? Did you all know that the FDA recently approved a treatment that reduces the chance of community spread of COVID-19 by 5X?

Its trade name is called Wearamaskasshole.
2/? Side effects include mild inconvenience, possible victim complex, fear of people thinking you R a sheeple, being ostracized by your anti-vax plandemic bros, and the power 2 stop your own asymptomatic transmission as this country stubbornly dives right on into that second wave
3/3 Check with your doctor, or really anyone, to see if Wearamaskasshole is right for you.

Now available without prescription!

Just wear a damn mask and stop having parties already!! It’s not that freaking hard. 🤦🏻‍♀️

What would you do if you found out your child was viewing pornography?

You’re probably thinking “my kid doesn’t have access to that” or “my kid wouldn’t look at that”.

If that’s what you’re thinking then there is a good chance that you’d be wrong.

Thread. 1/?
The average age of a child the first time they see pornography on the internet is 11 years old. Yes, that’s the average, which means there are still lots of kids younger than 11 that are viewing hard core pornography online.
2/?
Keep in mind that kids don’t have to be looking for pornography; it is programmed to find them. That’s how social media and the internet works. The algorithms work AGAINST our kids, not with them.

I’ve needed to take some time prior to posting this as I’ve had to reflect and listen and learn.

The events of the past several weeks breaks my heart, and the sadness I feel when I hear the cries of my African American family and friends bruise my soul. 1/?
I am white. My husband and child are white. We have a clear and noticeable privilege in all aspects of society simply because of the color of our skin.

My step-father, the only man who cared to be a father figure to me, is African American. I have 3 mixed race brothers. 2/?
They are beautiful, kind, intelligent, compassionate, and hard-working black men.

They do not have the inherent privilege I do and that is NOT fair and it is NOT right. 3/?

Please DO NOT leave your children in the car when running errands.

I’ve been getting messages from concerned parents telling me that they’re seeing people leaving their kids in the car when they run into a store to avoid the hassle of face masks & kids touching things. 1/?
I get it. This pandemic, and all that comes along with it, has us doing things we normally wouldn’t do, but leaving your kids in the car should not be one of them.

Leaving your kids in a car, even for a few minutes, can be deadly.

It can happen in minutes. 2/?
By the time you run in to grab just a couple of groceries your child can be severely injured or dead!

Yes. I said dead!

Some facts that you need to know:

-Enclosed vehicles can heat up 19 degrees in just 10 minutes, and cracking a window doesn’t help. 3/?

1/? Please read my story about losing a beautiful little patient of mine. This is not a COVID-19 patient but I share it with you all so that you can see and feel the anguish we physicians, nurses, and others on our healthcare team feel when we fight for a life and lose.
2/? Now multiply that by thousands.

This is what those of us in medicine are dealing with right now.

This is why we are begging you all to take this seriously.
3/? This is why we are begging you to care about us and your community and stay home when you can, wash your hands, and wear the damn mask.

These experiences change us.

These experiences DO NOT LEAVE US and define our new selves.

The number of dangerous conspiracy theories and the amount of disinformation being shared right now is mind boggling. It’s mentally exhausting and so disheartening. 1/?
I wish I didn’t feel like physicians, other medical professionals, and scientists are obligated to speak out about all this nonsense and educate the public, but I do. It’s an important part of our job, unfortunately. 2/?
I have disinformation fatigue for sure, as do many others (give a shout out of solidarity below if you’re feeling it too) yet we trudge on trying to squash the nonsense and provide evidence based information. 3/?
