This is deeply, deeply concerninging.

Even the best intepretation of her actions suggest something seriously wrong.

Rainey was assigned to the 4th Psychological Operations Group at Fort Bragg.

The group uses information & misinformation to influence the emotions, decision-making & actions of adversaries.

This was apparentally not the 1st occassion Captain Rainey had been involved in controversial protests.

US media reporting Capitol Building CCTV feeds show Rep Louie Gohmert, Rep Jim Jordan, Rep Matt Gaetz, Rep Lauren Boebert, Marjorie Taylor Greene, Paul Gosar & Andy Biggs giving ‘reconnaissance’ tours to Trump supporters groups before insurrection.

From Guardian today:

NJ Rep. Mikierill said in a Facebook Live broadcast she saw Republicans “who had groups coming through the Capitol I saw on 5 January for reconnaissance for the next day.” She said some of her GOP colleagues “abetted” Trump & “incited a violent crowd.”

She & other Democrats sent a letter Wednesday asking congress security officials to investigate “suspicious behavior & access given to visitors” the day before attack.

CNN reporting now that Donald Trump pressured VP Mike Pence to engineer a coup and threatened him with consequences if he didnt cooperate.

Wrests control of Senate back from the Republicans.

Historic election result sees southern state Georgia confirmed as Democrat.

Main US media channels starting to call result now.

Ossoff already confirmed Georgia senate race victor. Lead “unassailable”.

Georgia now officially confirmed Democrat.

US politically in a much different place now. Control of debate crucial to run party & committee agenda.

I’m naturally a unionist.
But the problem UK now has is its govt has “othered” Scots (remember Miliband in Salmond’s top pocket? The Scots do) for a decade now...

....but if you “other” a nation but don’t offer them a way to leave this is an inherently destructive situation.
2nd problem for the Union is while there is a lot of truth in the argument that breaking with a 60million neighbor will be economically costly for Scotland - there is a 450m Union + N Ireland waiting as ready made alternative.

This is a rare situation for independence movements.

Independence referendums tend to fail due to 3 issues

1. Status quo bias
2. Emotional bond
3. Economic cost

Othering & Brexit have torpedoed the 1st two.

Suspect any future referendum will be fought almost exclusively on the 3rd point.

Will it be enough?
