Seasonally adjusted manufacturing production decreased by 1,3% in November 2020 compared to the month prior, in October 2020.
Notably, seasonally adjusted manufacturing production increased by 8,9% in the three months ended November 2020 compared with the previous three months.
All ten manufacturing divisions reported positive growth rates over this period. Despite the Nov decline.
Here’s how @StatsSA collates this data and why it matters.
The survey covers #manufacturing enterprises in the manufacturing, processing, making or packing of products; the slaughtering of animals, installation, assembly, completion, repair & related work.
The results are drawn from a sample drawn from the business sampling frame, with enhanced coverage of South African businesses. It contains monthly indices of the volume of manufacturing production and monthly value of sales of manufactured products by division and major group.
The November data should also be looked at in the context of a year on year decline in the preceding month of October.
#Manufacturing production decreased by 3,4% in October 2020 compared with October 2019.
There’s also the fact that jn 2019 there was no lockdown which affected production among other areas of #manufacturing as we saw in 2020 during the first year of the Covid19 pandemic in South Africa.
#Manufacturing is the country's fourth largest industry, contributing 14% to the GDP (data from March 2020)... Food and beverages is the largest component in the industry, followed by the Petroleum and chemicals products, with Basic Iron and Steel in 3rd place.
