The UK already elected to delay 2nd doses of vaccines so more people could get the 1st shot, but US officials have been adamantly opposed, including Dr. Fauci. “I would not be in favor of that. We’re going to keep doing what we’re doing.”

A major risk is that there are NO data to tell us whether delaying the 2nd dose (and for how long) could reduce the overall efficacy of the vaccines.
Worse, delaying an immunity-boosting 2nd dose might give the #coronavirus more opportunity to mutate in partly protected people.

Furthermore, the main issue in the US with vaccination is NOT the supply of the actual vaccine doses, but instead, the ability to vaccinate many millions of people quickly.
Increasing supply won’t fix the main problem, while increasing risk for lack of efficacy, new mutants, etc

Bottom line: if vaccine supply becomes the bottleneck, I’m open to revisiting this potentially risky strategy.
For now, we need to ramp up vaccination programs — it’s INSANE that Trump Administration had NO PLAN to vaccinate broadly.
