With the damage Brexit is doing to people now, why didn't Labour challenge it for 3 years?
Too many cared more about the ideology of socialism, than making sure the pursuit of socialism didn't undermine the morals behind it, by making people poorer. @graceblakeley@theJeremyVine
The UK had been electing mainly right-wingers to the EU Parliament since 1999, and mainly Tories to Westminster for 100 years.
i.e. our leaving automatically made the EU more socialist!
So for the UK to complain that the EU's not socialist enough, shows a lack of self-awareness.
And anyone who thought it would be easier to sell soft Brexit to Leave voters in the North East than a Second Referendum, never really tried.
This Leave voter in Darlington called even Theresa May's 'softer' Brexit "disgusting" and would rather vote again.
And yet...
Despite Labour members voting for a 2nd Referendum in Sep 2018...
Despite Starmer saying it was time to campaign for a 2nd referendum in Jan 2019...
Labour ministers campaigned AGAINST a 2nd referendum in April 2019, 5 months before trying to win an election on it!
The principles @GraceBlakeley and other Lexiteers championed were spot on. We're seeing examples today, e.g. British Gas, which show workers need more power.
But the end result of refusing to question whether Brexit should go ahead 2017-19 is that ordinary people suffer more.
Why is all this important now?
With the damage Brexit will have done to people by 2024, people CANNOT AFFORD a repeat of Dec 2019.
We can only get the Tories out via an electoral pact with other pro-European parties. If Labour isn't pro-European, the left will be split AGAIN.

😍 Remember that time he told police officers to injure suspects as they're arresting them, then one killed George Floyd while arresting him, then he quoted a racist police chief to threaten the lives of people rioting against racist police?😍 #ByeByeTrump
😍 Or the time he said women should be punished for abortions but not men? 😍 #ByeByeTrump
😍 Or when he explicitly called for a ban on Muslims entering the US? 😍 #ByeByeTrump
If someone tweeted "Go out and kill a *insert colour* person*, they could get arrested for incitement to violence and we agree with that because someone could get hurt.
Someone explain the moral difference between that and the Right-wing hacks telling people to ignore the rules?
I saw this from Toby Young and it just got me thinking...
If enough people listened to this, many people would die.
Or maybe a more direct instruction not to follow the rules, like here...
The deal Johnson signed in 2019 and won his election on was tied to a political declaration that said we'd have a Level Playing Field based on our geographic proximity.
So if you let them imply the EU's being unreasonable for not giving us a deal like Canada... 🤬 #Marr#Ridge
Here's @skynewsniall essentially repeating the tweet at the top of this thread.
I'm going to have to make a big video on that interview... in the 4 minutes before Marr starts.😅
