Here’s the rub: the #USMNT need a clear-cut 6, not a utility man.
I think Adams is the #USMNT 6 regardless of what his role with Leipzig is. But i could understand some concern if he’s not playing that role often with his club.

The big concerns would be ball-security in traffic, 360 degree vision & tempo-setting responsibilities.
