COVID REPLAPSE—New study finds the #SARSCoV2 may remain in people’s brains after infection and trigger relapses in patients who thought they had recovered. This could explain why patients who appear to be over #COVID19 sometimes relapse. 🧵 webmd.com/lung/news/2021…
2) “In the study, mice that were infected with the virus through their nasal passages developed severe illnesses due to brain infections, even after the virus left their lungs. In humans, this could explain why patients who appear to be over COVID-19 sometimes relapse and die.”
3) “The brain is one of the regions where virus likes to hide,” Mukesh Kumar, the lead study author and a researcher at Georgia State University, said in a statement.
4) “That’s why we’re seeing severe disease and all these multiple symptoms like heart disease, stroke and all these long-haulers with loss of smell, loss of taste,” he said. “All of this has to do with the brain rather than with the lungs.”
5) “found that the virus was located in the brains of mice at a level that was 1,000x higher than in any other part of the body. Viral loads in the lungs began to drop after 3 days but remained high in the 🧠 on 5-6th days after infection, when the disease became more severe.”
6) There’s many other stories about cognitive effects of long term Covid.
7) also worrisome study—cognitive decline in recovered #COVID19 patients was found across severity level—largest among those hospitalized (& also among those not hospitalized). How big decline in hospitalized patients? Equal to -8.5 IQ point drop, or 10 years of aging decline.
8) Decline was more pronounced for tests that assessed problem solving & visual attention. Study controlled for age, gender, education, income, racial-ethnic group & pre-existing conditions.
9) Back to top story above... “Once it infects the brain, it can affect anything because the brain is controlling your lungs, the heart, everything,” the author said. “The brain is a very sensitive organ. It’s the central processor for everything.”
10) COVID-19 survivors whose infections reached their brain could also become susceptible to other serious medical conditions in the future, such as Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, cognitive decline and autoimmune diseases, he added. mdpi.com/1999-4915/13/1…
11) But it’s not all dark... there is hope too. Sometimes nature is magical... potential drug entering Phase 3 testing.
13) To be clear, while the study was in mice, the quotes about relevance to humans come verbatim from the WebMD article and from the Georgia State researcher himself.

Does neuroinvasion of the brain by #SARSCoV2 happen? Not just in mice, but in *humans*? The clear answer in this study is yes — both demonstrated with human brain cells and brain 🧠 inspection of deceased #COVID19 patients. 🧵 from a peer reviewed paper. ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/P…
2) Let’s first read the abstract:
📌”using human brain organoids... clear evidence of infection”
📌”neuroinvasion can be blocked”
📌”in autopsies of patients who died of COVID19... we detect #SARSCoV2 in neurons”
📌”results suggest that neurological symptoms associated with COVID-19 may be related to consequences of direct viral invasion of the central nervous system”
📌”brain is a site for high replicative potential for SARS-CoV-2.”
3) Denmark 🇩🇰 CDC has modeled this as well... and it’s horrendous. Denmark sequences EVERY SINGLE CASE EACH WEEK for mutations and they know it’s increasing 70% per week!!! Earlier modeling:
HYDROXYCHLOROQUINE drama—Oklahoma Attorney General is attempting to return a $2 million stockpile of HCQ—drug once touted by Trump as way to treat #COVID19. OK criticized for $2 million purchase, a move to curry favor with Trump. HCQ work for COVID? No! 🧵 readfrontier.org/stories/oklaho…
2) I feel like I’ve spend years of my life debunking HCQ.
BREAKING—HHS misused million of $ in BARDA medical research funds—wrongly used for removing office furniture, news subscriptions & other unrelated expenses, inspector general says. $25-26 mil was “taken from BARDA funding & [improperly] provided to ASPR”. cnn.com/2021/01/27/pol…
2) The anonymous whistleblower made a complaint in 2018 that "alleged that (HHS') Office of the Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response ... misappropriated millions of dollars that Congress appropriated for the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority—
3) “to respond to public health emergencies like outbreaks of Ebola, Zika, and -- now -- Covid-19," according to a letter sent by special counsel Henry Kerner on Wednesday to President Joe Biden detailing the report's findings.”
2) But I don’t trust the drop in cases... there was a large 32% steep drop in testing since last week. Thus although cases dropped 30%, cases dropping faster means the epidemic is may not be actually going down that much. DATA matters!
3) Also notice by county, there is a drop. But again, 32% testing drop means this is not as steep as we think. LA still in tough shape.
Imagine if we listened to arrogant jerks like this dude @reluctantlyjoe & ignored pandemic until there’s irrefutable 100% proof about dangers of #SARSCoV2 before we took precautions—all while being this rude—we would be in 10x worse pandemic.
