#Campylobacter fetus can cause intestinal illness and, occasionally, severe systemic infections. Infections mainly affect persons at higher risk, including elderly and immunocompromised individuals and those with occupational exposure to infected animals
Although the majority of cases of intestinal #campylobacteriosis are caused by C jejuni or C coli, a small proportion is caused by C fetus (2.4%). In contrast, C fetus is most commonly cause Campylobacter bacteriemia & fatality rate reported at 14%
#campylobacter fetus has predilection for vascular structures and cases of endocarditis, mycotic aneurysm and thrombophlebitis has been reported
#campylobacter fetus infections in pregnancy present as respiratory track or GI illness or bacteremia
#campylobacter fetus infections can also present with cns infections in neonates and adults
#campylobacter fetus endovascular infections should be treated with 4 wks with penicillin or gent. Alternative:Carbapenems
