TONIGHT: Deputy CMO Jonathan Van Tam faces viewers questions on vaccine myths, fears over 2nd dose delay, will Covid mutations mean re-vaccinations, schools reopening, summer holidays & did govt really do everything possible to avoid 100k deaths? #AskJVT #c4news 7pm
NOW: #AskJVT Q & A special - Prof Jonathan Van-Tam:

• He needs help from black doctors & healthcare workers to get the message across that the vaccine is very important
• Grandparents can’t see their grandchildren ‘until we have vaccinated literally 10s of millions of people’ Image
#AskJVT tells @krishgm on #c4news:

• He’s ‘framing the possibility that we need to realistically consider if at some point in the future we are going to need to re-vaccinate some of our population’

• This is 'new, uncharted territory and it is very tricky' Image
• 'There is absolutely NO data whatsoever to support the rumour about infertility and the vaccine'

• 'All I can do is just refute that head on and say, I believe that to be an unfounded rumour'

#AskJVT to @krishgm #c4news

If we don't prioritise 1st dose to many high risk people as possible... then more of those high risk people will have to wait longer for their 1st dose. There's a public health argument that this is the right way to do it.

#AskJVT on vaccine dosage delay
"I think the government's had to, like every other government around the world, has had to build the ship while sailing in it at the same time."

#AskJVT Q&A wouldn't be complete without one of his analogies.
"It is a regret, it's not an apology, it’s a regret that we did not have the testing capability frankly anywhere in the world to deal with this virus and the speed with which it encroached upon us."

#AskJVT on what could have been done better
"He's the best communicator the government have got"

EXCL: Police Commissioner Dame Cressida Dick interview: The Met is not institutionally racist - I’m not in denial.

‘We have zero tolerance of racist behaviour within the Met. Just last week somebody was sacked for racist conduct.'

Police chiefs adds:

• The Met will assist the Americans with Prince Andrew’s involvement in the investigation into Jeffrey Epstein - at any stage should they need it.

• Extremely likely that at some stage the Stephen Lawrence investigation will not be in an inactive phase.
The Police Commissioner tells @krishgm she was ‘horrified’ to discover that it is still the case that if you are a Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic person working in the Met, you are twice as likely to find yourself in a misconduct process. Image

NEW: The Department of Health has issued safety warnings, notices for disposal and distribution stoppages for more than 85 million masks and respirators, a Channel 4 News investigation has found.
The masks and respirators, many of which had passed their use by dates, were stored at the government’s Pandemic Stockpile in Haydock, Warrington and have been distributed to hospitals, care homes and GP surgeries since March.
Last week MHRA issued guidance to NHS stating millions of Cardinal surgical masks, distributed by Medline, should be “disposed of”.

NHS wrote to health workers: “There is a risk to staff wearing the mask if the foam strip on the mask flakes and enters their airway or mouth.”
