You can read the expert opinion of top lawyers and judges on the fundamental irreconcilability of the imposition of this flawed definition with free speech in our Universities. theguardian.com/news/2021/jan/…
Should @TheGreenParty be campaigning for or against adoption of IHRA in English universities as per Williamson's edicts?
ESSENTIAL READING. Here's an excellent, thorough report of the Academic Board Working Group on Racism and Prejudice @ucl on their prior adoption of IHRA. Epic fail. ucl.ac.uk/ucu/sites/ucu/…
"The bulk of our report examines the efficacy of the IHRA working definition, both in terms of its educational value and as a proscriptive tool for identifying antisemitism at universities and ensuring effective institutional reporting and enforcement."
"In the process we have identified a major concern in the conflation of the adoption of a special definition with the actual institutional combatting of antisemitism itself. Merely adopting this definition does not ensure efficacy in implementing appropriate measures."
"Another concern is manner in which IHRA disproportionally draws debates over Israel & Palestine into conversations around antisemitism, potentially conflating anti-Zionism with antisemitism, & offering a large number of egs. focusing on political conflict,..."
"... thereby muddling the explanatory power of the definition and risking the suppression of legitimate speech and academic research."
"After close examination of the debates over the IHRA and academic freedom from across the world, we have concluded that this specific working definition IS NOT FIT FOR PURPOSE within a university setting and has no legal basis for enforcement." [emphasis added]
"Moreover, we have examined how the adoption of the IHRA working definition may in fact undermine institutional responsibility to enforce these [other] policies and procedures, providing a tokenistic gesture rather than a rigorous and enforceable set of procedures and protocols."
Recommendation: "advise Council to retract the adoption of IHRA and consider more coherent alternatives, clarifying that it has no proscriptive function alongside existing university policies and legal obligations."
"IHRA working definition is unhelpful in identifying cases of harassment and is therefore a weak tool for effective university action. The core definition itself is too vague and narrow, and the eleven examples often do not match experience, as elucidated in our discussion."
Lesson for all political parties - substitute for University your political party: "As a university, our primary mode of engagement must demonstrate analytical rigor and intellectual heft, rather than hasty responses to the exigencies of a political moment."
"It is precisely because of the seriousness with which we take the ongoing existence of antisemitism in our university and in broader society that the Working Group has made these recommendations." 👏👏👏
Here is a further very recent robust, analytical response against IHRA from British academics who are also Israeli citizens. israeliacademicsuk.org/the-letter
Has hardly been a time when so many lawyers, judges, academics have spoken out with such unanimity against IHRA. It's time for @TheGreenParty to lead & put paid to this bogus definition and fight all racism wherever it rears it's ugly head - including speaking truth abt Israel.

UN human rights experts have said that as occupying power, Israel is required under Fourth Geneva Convention, “to the fullest extent of the means available to it”, to maintain health services in the occupied territory.
Article 56 requires Israel to adopt and apply “the prophylactic and preventive measures necessary to combat the spread of contagious diseases and epidemics” in cooperation with national and local authorities.
If the protected population is inadequately supplied, the occupying power is required under the Convention to facilitate relief schemes “by all means at its disposal”.
Poll result after 173 participated. 83% favour @TheGreenParty rejecting IHRA definition. This March 1-7 2021 we will have the opportunity to do just that & to fight both antisemitism & all racism including that perpetrated by the state of Israel upon Palestinian people. #gpconf
"Greens are at the heart of building a movement against racism and fascism, and there is no place for antisemitism, Islamophobia or any other kind of racism in our Party."
"At a time when the far-right is growing in confidence it is more important than ever to stand against Holocaust denial, anti-Jewish conspiracy theories and any other forms of antisemitic prejudice and hatred."
BREAKING NEWS: SHAHRAR ALI WINS IPSO RULING AGAINST JEWISH CHRONICLE ANTISEMITISM SMEARS! Press Regulator forces @JewishChron to publish retraction of its false statements made about @ShahrarAli Green Party Home Affairs spokesperson during 2019 General Election!
Today I am absolutely delighted to be able to share with you news from IPSO. They have ruled 100% in my favour, by upholding a complaint I made against the Jewish Chronicle for publishing a series of inaccurate statements & misrepresentations about me during the general election.
My answer: Unfortunately, authoritarianism has afflicted movements across the political spectrum and, yes, that includes traditionally left politics. I have seen thresholds for tolerating engagement with political opponents substantially lowered and I regard that as deeply. ..
.. problematic for liberal democracy – which thrives on contesting and challenging ideas through free speech. The mantra ‘not up for debate’ is particularly damaging for politics and encourages dangerous groupthink – in which environment, falsehood and distortion thrive ...
@greenbenali@TheGreenParty@greenandreac This is disappointing article, Benali, but I prefer you to have tagged me than to talking behind back so to speak. Let me respond to some of the statements in your article.
@greenbenali@TheGreenParty@greenandreac “Both Shahrar Ali and Andrea Carey Fuller have embraced definitions of women that exclude trans women from womanhood.”
You are conflating sex with gender. I'm happy to define woman in biological sex terms as would a common dictionary.
@greenbenali@TheGreenParty@greenandreac I was asked at SW GP hustings, for example, for a one word answer to whether a transwoman was a woman. I answered, “Yes, as a statement of gender identity”. (Not a one word answer I grant you but I think truth is more important.)
Thank you Jacqueline for supporting my election for Leader! "What the Green Party needs to do is actually say the truth." #electshahrar#gpleadership@TheGreenParty
Thank you Ricky for supporting Shahrar's election for Leader! "I find him such an exciting, electrifying public speaker. He's intelligent, credible, committed. I can't imagine anyone better." #electshahrar#gpleadership
