UN human rights experts have said that as occupying power, Israel is required under Fourth Geneva Convention, “to the fullest extent of the means available to it”, to maintain health services in the occupied territory.
Article 56 requires Israel to adopt and apply “the prophylactic and preventive measures necessary to combat the spread of contagious diseases and epidemics” in cooperation with national and local authorities.
If the protected population is inadequately supplied, the occupying power is required under the Convention to facilitate relief schemes “by all means at its disposal”.
Even if relief consignments, including ‘medical supplies’, are provided by others, Article 60 states that such consignments “shall in no way relieve the occupying power of any of its responsibilities” for health care to the protected population.
“The right to health is also a fundamental human rights issue,” UN experts said. “International human rights law, which applies in full to occupied Palestinian territory, stipulates that everyone enjoys the right to ‘the highest attainable standard of physical and mental health’.
The denial of an equal access to health care, such as on the basis of ethnicity or race, is discriminatory and unlawful.”

Poll result after 173 participated. 83% favour @TheGreenParty rejecting IHRA definition. This March 1-7 2021 we will have the opportunity to do just that & to fight both antisemitism & all racism including that perpetrated by the state of Israel upon Palestinian people. #gpconf
Motion to #gpconf includes following text:

"Greens are at the heart of building a movement against racism and fascism, and there is no place for antisemitism, Islamophobia or any other kind of racism in our Party."
"At a time when the far-right is growing in confidence it is more important than ever to stand against Holocaust denial, anti-Jewish conspiracy theories and any other forms of antisemitic prejudice and hatred."

Calling Party members - this weekend please prioritise two motions to #gpconf which would put paid to IHRA & defend Palestinian rights instead.

And reminder below for those intent on ad hominem attacks against lifelong antiracists - not something I'm going to take lying down.
You can hear Kenneth Stern author of the IHRA repudiating misappropriation of the examples here - recent debate Dec 2020
You can read David Feldman director of @PearsInstitute for study of antisemitism on how the IHRA is counterproductive on its own terms theguardian.com/commentisfree/…

Q6. Is particularly important to how we do politics.

Political discourse: Has the left has become more intolerant over the past few years, and do these techniques improve political discourse?
My answer: Unfortunately, authoritarianism has afflicted movements across the political spectrum and, yes, that includes traditionally left politics. I have seen thresholds for tolerating engagement with political opponents substantially lowered and I regard that as deeply. ..
.. problematic for liberal democracy – which thrives on contesting and challenging ideas through free speech. The mantra ‘not up for debate’ is particularly damaging for politics and encourages dangerous groupthink – in which environment, falsehood and distortion thrive ...

@greenbenali @TheGreenParty @greenandreac This is disappointing article, Benali, but I prefer you to have tagged me than to talking behind back so to speak. Let me respond to some of the statements in your article.
@greenbenali @TheGreenParty @greenandreac “Both Shahrar Ali and Andrea Carey Fuller have embraced definitions of women that exclude trans women from womanhood.”

You are conflating sex with gender. I'm happy to define woman in biological sex terms as would a common dictionary.
@greenbenali @TheGreenParty @greenandreac I was asked at SW GP hustings, for example, for a one word answer to whether a transwoman was a woman. I answered, “Yes, as a statement of gender identity”. (Not a one word answer I grant you but I think truth is more important.)
