Poll result after 173 participated. 83% favour @TheGreenParty rejecting IHRA definition. This March 1-7 2021 we will have the opportunity to do just that & to fight both antisemitism & all racism including that perpetrated by the state of Israel upon Palestinian people. #gpconf
"Greens are at the heart of building a movement against racism and fascism, and there is no place for antisemitism, Islamophobia or any other kind of racism in our Party."
"At a time when the far-right is growing in confidence it is more important than ever to stand against Holocaust denial, anti-Jewish conspiracy theories and any other forms of antisemitic prejudice and hatred."
"However, the examples which accompany the IHRA definition systematically conflate opposition to Israeli policies with antisemitism, threatening to undermine many years of practical solidarity with the Palestinian people, including use of Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions ..."
.. in the face of decades of dispossession and occupation.
Unjustified allegations of antisemitism also set back the fight against antisemitism itself. ."
"We believe it is vitally important that Greens continue to speak out to challenge Israel’s history of racism towards the Palestinians without being labelled as antisemitic."
"The IHRA definition and its examples have already posed a serious threat to academic freedom, wider freedom of expression and the unjustified attacks upon Green candidates and spokespersons."

UN human rights experts have said that as occupying power, Israel is required under Fourth Geneva Convention, “to the fullest extent of the means available to it”, to maintain health services in the occupied territory.
Article 56 requires Israel to adopt and apply “the prophylactic and preventive measures necessary to combat the spread of contagious diseases and epidemics” in cooperation with national and local authorities.
If the protected population is inadequately supplied, the occupying power is required under the Convention to facilitate relief schemes “by all means at its disposal”.
BREAKING NEWS: SHAHRAR ALI WINS IPSO RULING AGAINST JEWISH CHRONICLE ANTISEMITISM SMEARS! Press Regulator forces @JewishChron to publish retraction of its false statements made about @ShahrarAli Green Party Home Affairs spokesperson during 2019 General Election!
Today I am absolutely delighted to be able to share with you news from IPSO. They have ruled 100% in my favour, by upholding a complaint I made against the Jewish Chronicle for publishing a series of inaccurate statements & misrepresentations about me during the general election.
My answer: Unfortunately, authoritarianism has afflicted movements across the political spectrum and, yes, that includes traditionally left politics. I have seen thresholds for tolerating engagement with political opponents substantially lowered and I regard that as deeply. ..
.. problematic for liberal democracy – which thrives on contesting and challenging ideas through free speech. The mantra ‘not up for debate’ is particularly damaging for politics and encourages dangerous groupthink – in which environment, falsehood and distortion thrive ...
@greenbenali@TheGreenParty@greenandreac This is disappointing article, Benali, but I prefer you to have tagged me than to talking behind back so to speak. Let me respond to some of the statements in your article.
@greenbenali@TheGreenParty@greenandreac “Both Shahrar Ali and Andrea Carey Fuller have embraced definitions of women that exclude trans women from womanhood.”
You are conflating sex with gender. I'm happy to define woman in biological sex terms as would a common dictionary.
@greenbenali@TheGreenParty@greenandreac I was asked at SW GP hustings, for example, for a one word answer to whether a transwoman was a woman. I answered, “Yes, as a statement of gender identity”. (Not a one word answer I grant you but I think truth is more important.)
Thank you Jacqueline for supporting my election for Leader! "What the Green Party needs to do is actually say the truth." #electshahrar#gpleadership@TheGreenParty
Thank you Ricky for supporting Shahrar's election for Leader! "I find him such an exciting, electrifying public speaker. He's intelligent, credible, committed. I can't imagine anyone better." #electshahrar#gpleadership
