His nickname was “Sholay”, derived from Sola, a Yoruba name. He was two years ahead of me in high school. He did something that shifted my paradigm and that has stayed with me for four decades. #NewNigeria
The Inter-House Sports Competition was one of the most prominent highlights of the school year back then. But long before the competition that particular year, I observed something unusual. #NewNigeria
Very early in the morning, Sholay would put on his yellow track suit pants and white t-shirt, and run all by himself on the tracks. It did not make sense. The inter-house competition was still several months away. #NewNigeria
The months passed, and it was time for the competition. Sholay came first at the heats and eventually won the gold medals for the 100m, 200m and 4X100m races. I was stunned. My mind made the connection between his preparation and his success. #NewNigeria
That experience made me realise that God gives all opportunities, but most are just not prepared for them. I learned that today was created yesterday. If you’re trying to be ready when you should be ready already, you’re already late. #NewNigeria
Apparently, Sholay’s success at the competition was created not only buy his efforts during the competition, but also by his preparation. The next 10, 20 or 30 years are also being shaped by right now. #NewNigeria
Dear young Nigerian and African, the decades ahead present unprecedented opportunities to change the fortunes of our countries and our continent in all sectors. Are you prepared or preparing? #NewNigeria
Political parties are beginning to validate and register members in Nigeria. Does that mean anything to you? Now is the time to cultivate skills in politics, policy, governance, leadership, etc., and to rise above factors that divide us, like ethnicity and religion. #NewNigeria
You now have some clarity on the reasons for the slow pace of development despite our enormous human and material resources: the use of violence by state and non-state actors feeding off the oppressive status quo to frustrate change efforts. #NewNigeria
Pray and think deeply to get strategies to develop Nigeria/Africa. Then act fast. Build your influence from your local government by building relationships and by serving. Also build financial stability. Hurry, the next decade is taking shape already. Let’s build the #NewNigeria.

“God is not a man, so he does not lie.
He is not human, so he does not change his mind.
Has he ever spoken and failed to act?
Has he ever promised and not carried it through?” (Numbers 23:19 NLT).
“Listen, I received a command to bless;
God has blessed, and I cannot reverse it!” (Numbers 23:20 NLT).
“No curse can touch Jacob;
no magic has any power against Israel.
For now it will be said of Jacob,
‘What wonders God has done for Israel!’” (Numbers 23:23 NLT).
1. I didn’t think I was leadership material while young because of my introversion and shyness. It changed when I was loaned a book on leadership, where the author listed the qualities of a leader and said we all have some of the qualities already and can develop the rest.
2. I looked at the list. He was right. My self-esteem soared. The world is negative and teaches us helplessness by making us focus on our failures. Remind yourself of your positive qualities and achievements right now, and every morning and night. Be your own cheerleader.
3. Then, everyday, improve your effectiveness in your work. High self-esteem with low competence makes you an empty but noisy barrel. High competence with low self-esteem makes you feel like an impostor. High self-esteem and high competence create sustainable success.
1. My friend, Pastor Agbo Oni-Orisan, said his family once contracted a tiler to replace the bathroom tiles at their home in Germany, while they were away on vacation. #NewNigeria
2. When they returned, he observed the tiler had done a near-perfect job, except for a pretty short line. He called the tiler to let him know he did a great job. He mentioned the spot that wasn’t perfect but said they could leave it since it wasn’t easily noticeable. #NewNigeria
3. The tiler insisted he was coming back to correct the error. He pulled down all the tiles he laid and relaid all the tiles perfectly. Excellence is a personal value for him, but not for him only. #NewNigeria
1. Let’s explore the leadership dynamics in this statement:
Matthew 15:14 NLT
“Forget them. They are blind men leading blind men. When a blind man leads a blind man, they both end up in the ditch." #vision#leadership
2.A leader with vision has profound effects on the group. The group is filled with conviction about the future, hope, a sense of direction, motivation to work, discipline, and staying power to hold on when there are setbacks. I always pray for my leaders. #vision#leadership
3.However, nothing stops the followers from seeing too. They should seek to capture a vision for a preferable future when they are tired of falling into ditches. This is a major way to change the fortunes of the group. #vision#leadership
1.Dear young citizen, as you consider the way forward for the #ENDSARS movement, I wish to offer some ideas. First, it’s time to transmute from protesting to nation building. (You will protest as a tactic once in a while). The protest was like the takeoff of an aircraft.
2.You need to now focus on navigating the movement into the future and providing leadership for the nation. Police brutality, as you now realise, is symptomatic of our country’s problems. It has invisible roots in our mindsets, values and leadership culture.
3. You need a strong ideology to lay the foundation for a new nation. Nations are built on ideologies. Decide on few short, medium and long term objectives. Example; short term (#ENDSARS), medium term (influence political process), long term (make Nigeria a developed economy).
1.Dear young citizen, you were given a strong welcome to the game of power last week. PHYSICAL FORCE (sometimes expressed as VIOLENCE) is the basic form of power. #ENDSARS
2.Life is about interpretation. Some say the violent stop to your street protest means failure. It doesn’t. Rather, it proves you were effective, and shows you need to now be power-literate.
3.Your contemporaries (labeled hoodlums, micreants, etc.), deprived of other forms of power, responded with violence. Unfortunately, such violence is criminal. They only caused fellow citizens great hardship.
