So, lots of immigration policy news tonight, and unlike the bad days of the Trump administration, these announcements are worthy of a nuanced look. Here’s my two cents
🪙🪙 1/9:

First, it’s clear that the Biden team has smart, thoughtful people with deep expertise working on immigration policy. They understand that #immigration is not just a @DHSgov thing, and they’re willing to look at all facets of the issue in every agency 2/9.

Second, though folks like to say that Trump built an invisible wall, it was really more of an obstacle course. The goal, of course, was to make it impossible for anyone to come & stay here. Read Sarah Stillman’s excellent @newyorker piece for more 3/9: newyorker.com/magazine/2021/…

Here’s where nuance is needed: although Biden has made good on some promises, like ending the #MuslimBan, the truth is that many folks affected by that ban will likely still be shut out of the country because Biden has left Trump’s other visa & #healthcare bans untouched. 4/9

This has real consequences for real people: @Jactioncenter @AILA @thinklawlab client Carmen was forced to give birth alone due to the visa ban, and her husband *still* has not met his baby boy. 5/9

Carmen’s story is heartbreakingly💔common: thousands of others are watching their dreams of joining family or building new lives in the U.S. slip away due to these bans 6/9

The same goes for the disastrous Remain in Mexico program on the US-Mexico border. Kids represented by our plaintiffs have already been separated from their parents for too long: cbsnews.com/news/children-… 7/8

We know the Trump administration made a mess of things in our immigration system (🗑️🔥), and messes take time to clean. But our clients and those like them shouldn’t have to suffer unduly as a result. 8/9

We’re ready for Biden to #BuildBackBetter and create an immigration system where we are able to #WelcomeWithDignity. /end
