This week, radical left-wing organizations & media publicized that #IDF held drills “in Palestinian villages” in Training Ground 918 & forced “local residents out of their homes”. Time to talk some facts.
THREAD
1. Training Ground 918 in the South Hebron Hills was declared a firing zone by the IDF in the early ‘80s.
2. It’s a desert area, and like all other training grounds, was empty – besides sometimes functioning as grounds for grazing.
3. Training Ground 918 has served various IDF units over the years – including infantry, artillery, & Air Force.
4. In 2000, local Arabs began to take over the area through mass illegal construction.
5. Due to the construction, IDF was forced to reduce its activities in Training Ground 918 & made changes to training schedules.
6. Left-wing orgs petitioned to High Court of Justice, claiming that hundreds of #Arab families had lived in the Training Ground for many years.
7. IDF checked & found that only a handful of families lived in the area in 2000 – all there on a seasonal basis.
8. Out of 49 families mentioned in the petition, at least 38 were identified as permanent residents of nearby Yatta/other villages.
9. Despite the State rightfully viewing the area as State lands, High Court offered a compromise: illegal structures on the periphery of the Training Ground would remain; rest of the land would be permitted for grazing & other agricultural uses when IDF isn’t training.
10. While Palestinian Authority was involved from the starting point, from 2009 onwards it started actively funding the illegal construction, together with int'l organizations, as part of efforts to take over parts of Area C. #BattleforAreaC ❗️🇪🇺
11. In the meantime, State of Israel didn’t do much; local Arabs continued their encroachment and even paved an illegal smuggling route.
12. PA ignored High Court’s suggestion for compromise. As the PA-led encroachment increased, number of IDF drills decreased.
Ok, so to sum up, what happened this week?
Exactly what happened a year ago, and the year before that. IDF troops came to train in an #IDF training zone. 🪖
Arab village was established in the middle of an IDF Training Ground, & not vice-versa. That must be the starting point of any debate. Please help us get the word out! #debunkingthelies

A few weeks ago, a Bedouin man invaded into agricultural land that belongs to Moshav Nevatim & put up an illegal hut. Hut is small, but its impact has been huge: the Moshav workers aren't allowed to enter their fields to work & have received threats. 🚨 1/4
Nevatim, near Be'er Sheva, is surrounded by clusters of illegal Bedouin squatters’ camps, & has suffered for many years from crime, vandalism, burglary & agricultural theft. Recently we told you about the desecration of graves in the cemetery - bit.ly/3azpI8X
2/4
The frustrated farmers asked Regavim for help. So we went to National Enforcement Unit, Israel Police, & Israel Land Authority to demand that they stop this illegal land seizure. The invader must be held accountable!

Following last night’s events in Tamra, Regavim calls on Israeli-Arab leaders to back @israelpolice in the complex battle against organized crime in the Arab sector >
> Problem of organized crime & illegal weapons in the Arab sector has caused huge damage & distress to regular, law-abiding citizens. Recent acts of enforcement are important & conducive to better security & safety for all Israeli citizens. >
> The death of Ahmad Hijazi, who was killed last night in the crossfire with police officers, must be investigated. But we must remember that restoring Israeli governance throughout the country is a tough & complicated mission. >
⚠️ Despite the Civil Administration’s promises, the ‘Corona dump’ near Shaar Binyamin in Area C remains uncleared! And despite being caught in the act, the dumpers haven’t been indicted. 🔴
THREAD
During first #Corona lockdown, tons of raw waste were trucked from Arab municipalities of #Ramallah & El Bireh to the abandoned Tariffi quarry on Route 60. The waste was dumped unceremoniously over the cliff into the quarry, creating a mountain of garbage visible for miles. >
> In July 2020, after Regavim filed repeated complaints, the CA announced that the illegal dump would be shut down, and that the truck owners would have to clear the area. 🚛 >
A law that was enacted by the Jordanians in 1953 that prohibits selling land in Judea & Samaria to Jews is still in place. Yes, you read that right.
THREAD 1/5
“Law 40” was enacted during Jordan’s illegal occupation of J&S, preventing non-Arabs from purchasing private lands in the area. In 1971, Military Ruler issued an order that allows companies registered in Judea & Samaria to purchase lands, under certain conditions.
2/5
But individual Jews still aren't able to buy land in parts of their ancestral homeland - simply because they’re Jewish. Instead of cancelling the law, Military Ruler merely bypassed it. AGs of Defense Ministry & J&S have agreed on need to change this piece of legislation.

A covert police operation recently exposed a case of extortion payments in the #Negev. Over last few years, families & contractors, who were supposed to move to a location near Route 6, were victims of extortion threats amounting to hundreds of thousands of shekels.
THREAD 1/4
For around 6 months, 3 policemen from Yoav Unit (part of Police's Southern Command) disguised themselves as contractors to collect enough evidence.
Police arrested 6 suspects, all members of the same family.
2/4
The family illegally seized State lands in the Negev, threatened anyone who approached the area, & demanded various payments. This week, the Southern District Attorney's Office indicted the suspects & requested detention until the conclusion of proceedings.

✅When construction first began, back when there was nothing more than concrete foundation for the structure, Regavim notified Civil Administration’s enforcement officer.
But we got no answer, allowing construction to progress & generate this PR nightmare for 🇮🇱.
