Good to see @hmtreasury is looking seriously at how to implement my proposed #windfalltax on excessive profits online giants have reaped during Covid while so many other sectors have been devastated by enforced lockdowns.

thetimes.co.uk/article/amazon… @thesundaytimes @ShippersUnbound
This is the right fair thing to do.

Most recently, I spoke about my #windfalltax thoughts in this #thread. ⤵️

But this #windfalltax is something I’ve talked about for some time, including in this article I wrote for @Daily_Express during the first lockdown back in April. #thread

express.co.uk/news/uk/127066… @cyrildixon
In @thesundaytimes today, @ShippersUnbound writes that, in addition of course to @JeffBezos’ company, the so-called #AmazonTax would be applied to the likes of @ASOS @Ocado @JustEatUK @Deliveroo, parcel firms and the big supermarkets.

#windfalltax #thread
It should also be levied on #onlinegambling outfits who have profited not just out of Covid but out of people’s misery.

And, in addition to whatever new taxes may raise, we STILL need Government to borrow and invest in #CaudwellPandemicRecovery. #CPR📈

#windfalltax #thread
I've also spoken about an ongoing #onlinesales tax. This would need to be done carefully so as not to discourage entrepreneurialism but in light of the reduced overheads advantage over #HighStreet.

Reports are @hmtreasury is considering this too.

Tune in to @lbc at 7.25am tomorrow when I'll talk to @NickFerrariLBC about a possible #windfalltax on Covid's biggest corporate winners, like #Amazon.

I hope there's time to cover @ExcludedUK, #CaudwellPandemicRecovery and #GivingPledge too. It's all related. #ExcludedUK #CPR📈
Good speaking to @NickFerrariLBC on @LBC about a #windfalltax on Amazon and other online giants.

I'm generally in favour of low taxes to stimulate the economy, but the exceptional and unequal circumstances of Covid call for a different approach.

Tune in to @talkRADIO at 3pm when I'll continue the conversation about a Covid #windfalltax on online giants with @iancollinsuk.

How do we redress the balance between lockdown winners and losers? The inequalities are extreme and unjust. Ask members of @ExcludedUK. #ExcludedUK
With tax, there's a big difference between legality and morality.

Good to speak to @talkRADIO's @iancollinsuk about a potential online #windfalltax post-Covid, as well as #CaudwellPandemicRecovery, the #GivingPledge and managing home renovations! #CPR📈

.@bankofengland is right that our strong vaccine rollout is essential for our economic recovery. And we will undoubtedly have a big bounce as things reopen. But let’s remember that is from the very low position of being 10% down. #economy

bbc.co.uk/news/business-…
This initial bounceback will be driven by those who have been lucky enough to maintain or grow their incomes during Covid as they splash out with their excess savings and make up for lost time. #bankofengland #economy #thread
But vaccines can’t reopen businesses already closed, save jobs already lost, pay off the debts of over-leveraged SMEs, or plug the huge holes in the finances of the unlucky 3.8m excluded from Covid income support for the past 10 months. @ExcludedUK #ExcludedUK #thread
