Because we started this cycle with 56% of America wanting Trump convicted and disbarred, that was why we had so many Republicans announce BEFORE the trial, which way they felt like voting - 5 GOP Senators siding to convict

NOW that polling HAS TO MOVE higher, to pick up Senators
The polling has to get well above 60% for this conviction to become possible and around 65% we should get 17 Republicans = 67 Senators and a Conviction.

Do not FOR ONE MOMENT be 'persuaded' by BULLSHIT poker bluffs that the GOP Senators are saying - or the pundits on TV
However brilliant the argumentation, the GOP Senators WILL NOT grow a spine. It will not happen. However ridiculous the argumentation - IF THE POLLING MOVES UP, we GET MORE GOP SENATORS

It is the PUBLIC pressure that gets us the votes. And we WILL Get more than 56. I promise you
Do not think this is a courtroom trial with a proper jury. It isn't. This is POLITICS. Those GOP Senators have to be PRESSURED to 'reluctantly' vote against Trump (in their heart, most of them HATE Trump - including Ted Cruz & Marco Rubio & Lindsey Graham)
What Louisiana GOP Senator Cassidy did yesterday, is therefore INCREDIBLE. He openly switched his vote AGAINST Trump, and likely just based on the two team performances. THAT IS BONUS FOR US. He would have been one of our easiest pick-ups otherwise, apparently
So my 'pollster' take on Day 1? I don't know when we get polling, I'd hope there were polls every day now during the trial. But yesterday was SO compelling, on live TV, including Fox - with clearly REPUBLICANS shell-shocked, that it DID move the needle (in polling)
If the SAME pollster ran a poll before and after yesterday, there was movement. Am certain. How much? Arguably about one Senator's worth. Maybe a point or two (which is HUGE movement in one DAY)

If ABC ran a poll today, they likely would find 58% to 59% to convict. That's my gut

Hitler-Trump analogy thread/1

This is not about genocide. This is not about starting the deadliest war, and widest-ranging the planet has seen, World War 2. Hitler did that WHEN he was Dictator.

Trump TRIED to become Dictator. The correct analogy is to the EARLY rise of Hitler
Hitler-Trump analogy thread/2

It is not accurate to compare DICTATOR Hitler to President Trump. It IS accurate to compare POLITICIAN Hitler to POLITICIAN Trump. Their early stage.

Because Hitler ROSE TO POWER when Germany was yes, a DEMOCRACY when that happened.
Hitler-Trump analogy thread/3

Those who have studied Hitler's RISE TO POWER in Democratic Germany of 1920s, & how Hitler destroyed that Democracy & became a Dictator in 1930s (then launched World War 2, the genocide etc, AFTER he became Dictator) - see CLEAR parallels in Trump

And by favorite I mean America's most hated man, Sen Ted Cruz (Q Canada)

We DO know how Cruz will vote. He will be the only iron-clad vote to acquit, who cannot be moved. Even if the vote ends up 99 to 1, Cruz will be the one for Trump

This isn't because Cruz likes Trump haha
Ted Cruz HATES Trump. And it isn't about facts or the law. No it is pure political need. Ted Cruz needs ALL Trump voters, the maganutters for his 2024 run

Oh, and Cruz NEEDS for the OTHER Republicans to convict Trump. Cruz knows he would LOSE the nomination in 2024 to Trump
Yes. Ted Cruz hates Trump. Cruz knows Trump is 100% guilty. Ted Cruz NEEDS for Trump to be convicted and forbidden to run in 2024 - and then Trump will pretend he was Trump's BFF and Cruz expects to inherit the maganutter wing of Trump support for 2024 Presidential nomination.

The McTurtle Thread/1

So this thread is about our favorite swamp creature, Mitch McTurtle. And no. I have not suddenly fallen in love with the utterly adorable asshole

I need to explain the Trump Impeachment McTurtle angle. MOST of you will be surprised. He's on OUR side?
The McTurtle Thread/2

VERY many of you have become convinced (fairly) that the GOP will acquit Trump again, because essentially all pundits tell you so. I am not DISPUTING their analysis

I tell you the FACTS

I need to tell you what the Teenage Mutant Mitch McTurtle is DOING
McTurtle Thread/3

MOST have not noticed, that Mitch McTurtle is secretly WHIPPING Republican SENATOR VOTES to flip, and vote to CONVICT Trump

Yes. That is what he is doing. I have not gone soft in my head listening to Trump attorneys explaining record players

BTW the Jedi Move by Rep Raskin? To announce that he's declining his chance to offer a rebuttal, returning all 36 minutes of time he had, to the Chair

Did you get the ENORMITY of that move. True masterstroke

First. EVERYBODY loved him, including the other side, and ALL Senators
Secondly the DEMs impeachment managers KNEW they had won the day, in fact crushed the opposition (to tears, literally). In that last 36 minutes it would be impossible to achieve MORE than what they did. They MIGHT have gloated or fumbled, diminishing the day
BUT the MASTERSTROKE was the effect on the opposition. The Trump team could not RESPOND, because they had NO TIME to prepare anything.

It left the Trump Defense attorneys not just shell-shocked, they couldn't even prepare answers for the press waiting outside...

The Analysis Thread/1

What the Hell was that? Actually, there is rhyme & reason for what happened today with Trump defense team. As bizarre as it may sound, that was their BEST effort and THIS guy IS their better attorney:

Let me explain
#ImpeachmentTrial #ConvictAndDisqualify
The Analysis Thread/2

We SAW this. The first dude was bizarrely jovial, in no hurry, utterly contradictory, droned on & on, accomplishing nothing

Then second guy runs at his mouth, rushing through wild array of arguments, ending with bizarre, possibly emotional? poetry. Crying
The Analysis Thread/3

Pundits tell us that the first guy was a TOTAL train wreck, at times agreeing with the prosecution

The second guy wasn't that hideous, poorly prepared but had some valid arguments but spoke too fast and was confusing

Why would I say first guy is stronger?

How to EMOTIONALLY take the trial

This is a NIGHTMARE for ALL Republicans. Not just Trump & his closest. Not only magaworld. Not only Senators. ALL Republicans including House, including LOCAL Governors, etc. They NEED it to end fast. It is a lose-lose-lose situation for GOP
We do not 'need' for Trump to be convicted for this to be a HUGE victory for Team Blue. We NEED it to run long, bring witnesses, put pressure on GOP and FORCE THEM TO TAKE A SIDE. Either side (choosing Trump or choosing sanity) is DAMAGING to them politically into 2022 and beyond
Of COURSE we hope that Trump is convicted. What is ALREADY a 'win' for us, is that this time we get a MAJORITY conviction vote (more than 50% of Senators, last time we only got 48% when Romney was only brave Republican). We almost certainly get at least 55% yes votes this time
