A reflection of what we people are always saying. And the esteemed General puts it succinctly. India's victory is not in taking land or crushing the military might of China. It's in stopping China from achieving it's objectives and forcing it to spend the whole winter there.
Whether you surrender a few hills or not, the lesson which either country learnt is this. China cannot maintain the position for a whole winter there. Even if it builds roads and sets up excellent facilities for it's troops, the reality is, the cost is prohibitive and
soldiers are not going to be happy. There are no train lines, there are no sufficient airbases(every plane taking off from Ngari can be shot down by Indian ground fire) and there are exactly three roads to reach there. Realization will not dawn on those sitting in Beijing.
It will dawn on those trying to protect these impossible lands where even water is not available and there are no people around - why exactly are we here and what are we doing here? Is it really worth our lives? And whom are we fighting for? These questions are already coming.
That is exactly how a Dynastic Cycle starts - a distant army in an inhospitable climate which Beijing cannot support - and the longer such things happen, the more the chances of China imploding into fragments.
But, make no mistake. China is going to come back again, and with an equally bigger force and with an aim to conclude the matters in a single summer-spring season.
There are three reasons why China is going to do that. 1. Loss of Face. 2. China knows winter is India's advantage and is in a race against time. 3. The ultimate aim for China is Ngari-Leh-Skardu road link as an alternate to Karakoram Highway. This round, I believe is to
separate North Ladakh from Ladakh by attempting to link China with Pakistan - North Ladakh and Siachen will not be taken but they will be starved to submission - and it's a huge loss of face for China and their greatest defeat after 1980 Vietnam and 1987 Arunachal.

Let me tell you of an incident when Greenpeace was still legal in India. In a parking lot outside a super market, a Greenpeace guy accosts me and asks for some time to explain what he is doing. I was not busy and said OK. His proposition is this.
Coal pollutes and India should shutdown all thermal power plants. With a flourish, he produces a map of India and says these are all the areas where India has got coal plants and that they are launching a movement to shut them down. One single question from my side.
The belt you are showing is called Dandakaranya and is a thick forest. Whatever pollution these plants make are absorbed by the trees around and it won't harm environment. Now explain me why should I support your stand. Caught like a deer in headlights,
The biggest flaw of CCPooh China is it is expansionist and is incapable to understand which countries can't fit into Chinese Mandala, thereby dissipating it's energy as like a wave against rocks. The tide comes and the sea retreats for the day.
And note, the more you try to bring in more Mandalas into Chinese orbit, the faster the dynastic cycle kicks in. Some strategist placed 2040 as the timeperiod for the next Dynastic cycle somewhere around 2005-2010 and the number doesn't seem to be off the mark.
In some cases, they say, time heals. China, Europe and Amreeka are some such examples. Have some patience. They will implode. You don't even need to kick that proverbial rotting door. All you need is some patience for a waiting game.
So, yesterday came news of two brutal massacres by Pakistan, a State Sponsor of Terror(FATF Grey Listed) - one in Islamabad itself where teachers who gathered before Parliament to ask why their promised pay hike is not implemented.
They were attacked with, of all things, expired tear gas shells. Reports cite 53 deaths. The second one is from Kohlu where the government attacked the town of Kohlu with helicopter gunships. There were atleast six deaths, but numbers are to be ascertained.
Where is @UNPeacekeeping? Where is @UNHumanRights? Where is @FATFNews? Where are all those vultures who bleat and bray for much smaller incidents? When a state starts massacring innocents with impunity for decades, what exactly are all these people doing?
So, what is the problem with Sri Lanka? First of all, I will give you three maps. The first one is the demographic map of Sri Lanka, the second one is the map of Prabhakaran's Tamil Eelam. The third is religions in Sri Lanka.
A near 100% match in all three images. So, what's the inference? Sinhalese = Buddhists and Tamils = Hindus. So, Tamils are not us. That's the root cause of every problem Sri Lanka has. It's not that Sri Lanka is isolated from Tamil Country. For millenia, people moved in either
direction. Koneshwaram and the associated Shankari Shaktipeetham are some of the greatest Hindu temples. The last Kandy Nayak was not a Sinhalese and not even a Tamil - he is a Telugu. That closely knit they were. All problems started when the British opened the State Council
Europe was always treated to be the central pivot for the world history but the reality is, outside Roman Empire, European History before Colonialism was not even worth mentioning. Let me give you an example. How did Europe fare before the Mongols?
The whole Mongol enterprise in Europe can be divided into just four critical battles -
Battle of Kalka River, 1223
Siege of Kolomna, 1238
Battle of Mohi 1241
Battle of Legnica 1241
After the Cumans were destroyed, they fled into Kievan Rus. A combined Russian force under the personal control of Grand Prince Mstislav of Kiev and comprising units of Cumans, Kiev, Galich, Chemingov and others(18 Princes in total) blocked the Mongols on Dneiper River.
