Right-wing media remembrances of Rush Limbaugh seem curiously short on quotes from the show that he did for several decades.
Fox News, for example, has repeatedly aired clips from his 2009 CPAC speech, not particularly revealing comments he made on his radio show..
The FoxNews.com obit quotes the CPAC speech, his final 2020 broadcast in which he discussed his prognosis, some autobiographical quotes he made on-air, and this reference to the McNabb incident. foxnews.com/media/rush-lim…
Daily Caller obit: 2020 prognosis quote, CPAC quote, "resigned [from ESPN] after comments he made about an NFL quarterback sparked backlash." dailycaller.com/2021/02/17/rus…
Limbaugh's right-of center critics fill their pieces with the clear examples from his show that his conservative supporters leave out. I'll thread some of them below, they make for interesting reading.
Conor Friedersdorf runs through a series of examples from Limbaugh's books and radio show chronicling his shifts on the value of character and his bigotry, including the "in Obama’s America the white kids now get beat up with the black kids cheering" bit. theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/…
Peggy Noonan, who ultimately concludes that repealing the Fairness Doctrine may have been a mistake, focuses on his 2006 post-election statement that he no longer had to "carry water" for defeated GOPers. wsj.com/articles/rush-…

Trump treating Newsmax and OAN as Fox’s equals will encourage other Republican politicians to do the same, furthering a radicalization spiral for both the right-wing media and the GOP.
Gonna be a weird seesaw for Fox between doing pro-Trump propaganda like it has the last several years and doing more traditional work as the GOP’s lie factory. mediamatters.org/fox-news/why-f…
What does this do for Fox's ratings? Hannity's been losing his time slot to Maddow for weeks, by up to ~1 million viewers. Does this put him back on top? Does he beat Tucker for Fox's top show?
More than 100 posts on Newsbusters' "Capitol Hill Riot" tag, guessing none of them say "Oh by the way our boss' son was one of the rioters." newsbusters.org/issues-events-…
Why won't the media talk about how it's really the Democrats' fault that my boss' son was able to break into the Capitol so easily?
Brent Bozell III went on Fox Business to complain that the left is smearing all Republicans as if they were those who stormed the Capitol. It turns out his son was one of the stormers.
Texas public officials would really like to avoid any accountability whatsoever for decisions they've made regarding Texas' grid, and Fox is more than willing to play ball.
He did Ingraham’s podcast last week, she was talking up a left-right alliance against the “Big Science” vaccination effort. mediamatters.org/laura-ingraham…
Carlson’s doing a cowardly “why won’t big tech and the experts let you ask questions about the vaccine” schtick that this slots into perfectly. And he’s hosted RFK Jr. to do anti-vaccine commentary in the past. mediamatters.org/coronavirus-co…
