My wife's grandmother had a heart attack years ago
We took a 3-hour drive to visit her at the hospital.
I had a 9-5 job then.
At 12 pm my boss called me. He said, "When are you coming back? I'm sorry, but it wasn't your grandma who had the stroke."
That was my breaking point
I'll never forget my wife's face in disbelief when I told her I had to go back to work.
She was with her mom when I broke the news. Both of them looked at me with disappointment.
We had taken a 3 hour drive to the hospital.
And now, I had to take a 3 hour drive back to work just to put in 2 hours of work for that day.
I should've just shammed my boss into submission. But I didn't because I really needed the job and the money.
I don't respect that type of obtuse, dehumanizing behavior.
Society has made people believe it's ok.
But it's not.
Today, I answer to nobody but myself.
I own my business.
I own my time.
Ig something ever happens, I'll be able to hop on a plane, a boat or a car to get to my destination to be with my loved ones during their final moments.
Rosita, my wife's grandmother, was a good woman. She had 13 children. All of which turned out to become successful people.
Today, my wife's grandfather is old and forgetting everything and everyone.
And, without single drop of doubt, I know that when the inevitable happens, I'll be there for my wife comforting her.
