#FASTag- Convenience or Money Matter?? - a thread for @NHAI_Official@MORTHIndia 1. On February 16th, govt implemented long pending FASTag in toll plazas across the country. FASTag is now mandatory for all existing vehicles on the road, & no new vehicle can be taken w/o (1 of 8)

What is FASTag - A reloadable tag which enables automatic deduction of toll & lets you pass through the toll plaza w/o stopping for cash. FASTag is linked to prepaid account frm which the applicable toll amount is deducted. (2/8)
3 . Now, how much does a FASTag cost – Initial cost is ₹500 – of which ₹100 is the service for the tag, ₹200 is refundable security deposit and ₹200 would be loaded into the tag for use at #TollPlazas. You can keep on reloading the wallet as per your travel plans. (3/8)
4. What happened then - I bought car last week, & paid ₹500 for Fastag to the dealer. The vehicle had FASTag affixed. I started my journey from Kerala High Court & entered Container Road. There was a toll there & I passed thru the toll effortlessly - received SMS that (4/8)
5. ₹50 has been deducted for the toll. I marveled at advances our country was making – seamless travel on roads. My next toll was 60 kms away at Thrissur. Did the math in my mind – I had ₹200 in the wallet, paid ₹50 at Container Road toll, balance ₹150, & the next toll (5/8)
6. is ₹65 – I had enough for the travel.
It was not the case to be; my vehicle could not pass through the toll at Thrissur, y? if the balance goes below ₹200 even by one ₹, the tag gets inactive (this is apart from the ₹200 security deposit). I had to pay double (6/8)
7. cash for passing through the toll.
You do the math – #India has app 10 crore toll paying vehicles on road ( 2/ 3 wheelers are exempt, along with vehicles of MLA/MP etc). Now imagine, these 10 crore vehicles having FASTag with ₹200 security deposit & ₹200 as minimum (7/8)
