1/ Gun control does not lead to gun confiscation. In 1934, Congress passed the National Firearms Act to limit the availability of machine guns/short-barreled shotguns/short-barreled rifles/silencers/other similar weapons that were often used by criminals during the Prohibition.
2/ The National Firearms Act (NFA) imposed a tax on the manufacture, import, and distribution of NFA weapons and required a REGISTRY of 'all NFA firearms in the United States. hsdl.org/?abstract&did=…
3/ National Firearms Registration & Transfer Record (NFRTR) is the central registry for all items regulated under the NFA. >3 million items are currently registered in the NFRTR, since 1934. There has been no gun confiscation in 87 years. atf.gov/firearms/natio… #GunControlNow
4/ Did you know that private citizens or individuals who meet eligibility under the NFA are allowed to purchase, sell, possess, and transfer only previously registered NFA weapons? So gun control does not mean the loss of 2nd amendment rights.
5/ Weapons registered under the NFA are highly regulated w/ licensing requirements+ therefore fully automatic guns & silencers are rarely used in mass shootings. We must ban future manufacture of semiautomatic AW & regulate existing ones like machine guns. atf.gov/firearms/qa/ho…

1) We have changed the conversation dramatically since the Sandy Hook mass shooting tragedy in 2012. Gun control was barely mentioned in 2008 or 2012 Elections but now ALL 19 Democrat Presidential candidates support an assault weapons ban! @nytimes
nytimes.com/2019/10/13/us/…
2) In 2013, a few months after 20 children & educators were killed by a gunman with an AR15 in Sandy Hook, 30% of the Democratic caucus in the Senate voted against the assault weapons ban. nytimes.com/2013/04/18/us/… @nytimes
3) Now, the biggest disagreement between the Democratic Presidential candidates is whether people who already own those assault weapons should be required to sell them to the government, or simply given the option to do so. #BanAssaultWeapons
