What skill will be in demand as we grow into remote work more and more?

What skill should you develop, if you want to stay in your hometown but work for big companies?

If you thought "coding" you are wrong.

It would be #writing
🧵
We already write emails, slack messages, basecamp threads. In remote working, it is only going to increase.

Here is a simple formula to make you a writing LION.

LION is an acronym. It stands for:

Learning
Innovate
Outwork
Network
Learn

Every writer is a learner. Be willing to learn from wide variety of sources.

I have been using consume-produce-engage model to learn everything I want to learn. You can learn more here: jjude.com/sdl
Innovate

Startups have this "bundling & unbundling". You can use that as a writer.

Whenever you read a great article, unbundle it into different article on your own; Same way, assemble an article from different sources.
Outwork

There is no shortcut to hardwork. Grab every opportunity to write.

Write on Twitter
Write on LinkedIn
Write on Internal company blog

Look for every opportunity to write.

The more you write, you have more opportunities to improve your writing.
Network

Use whatever you've writen to build relations with others. Share what you've written to seek feedback; write about tips you learned from others;

And as you build your network, you'll get more opportunities to learn, write and repeat the virtous cycle.
Isn't it an easy formula to remember? Repeat this step as often as you can.

Now don't forget to follow me. If you gained from this tweet, just don't like it, retweet it.

Use the formula now to start writing your tweets.

How to build a successful newsletter?

I listened to "Lessons From a $1M/yr Newsletter", a discussion between @nathanbarry & @fortelabs .

Some insights I gathered

🧵
Think of newsletter as a stadium.

A stadium has many entrances. Your newsletter should also have many entrances.

- Homepage
- Subscribe Forms in every post
- Middle of popular posts
- Subscribe links in your newsletter

But @fortelabs doesn't have pop-up forms.
Tiago has many forms.

His forms conversion ratio is about 3%

Forms in his home page converts the most

If you want to last longer in a field, focus on fundamental principles governing it

🧵
We get carried by the visible. They are easy to debate, discuss, and dissect.

- fonts and colors on your website instead of content
- camera, lenses instead of principles of photography
- Jira (or Basecamp) instead of training in project mgmt

All are pretentious veneer
Principles are the opposite. They determine whether you thrive or fade away.

Let me tell you what happens you know the fundamental principles of your field, in the next tweet
