"Improving picture" in terms of the number of people affected by those outbreaks says HSE COO Anne O'Connor
Now this is interesting and good data.
Currently open outbreaks in hospitals. On the right hand slide you can see a drop off in staff cases.
Colm Henry says 'most likely' we are seeing an early impact of vaccines among healthcare workers.
Henry running through global data from Scotland, rest of UK and Israel on the impact of vaccinations.
There's been a big reduction in asymptomatic cases which would suggest the vaccines are stifling transmission.
Henry says the data from AstraZeneca shows it's performing "better than expected" in the population.
This is encouraging.
Summary of all that good stuff.
On difficulties with GPs getting supply of vaccines.
- Reid: "Some smaller GPs were not able to buddy up with larger GPs."
- "Some confusion on delivery date."
- "There have been a few issues overall."
Colm Henry says it's coming to a time when officials will have to review visitation to nursing homes.
He says it'll be discussed again by NPHET. He says he expects 'some change' in the time ahead
Asked Paul Reid how many GPs affected/how many doses not delivered...
Says there are clearly a number of issues - working to try to quantify that.
Asked about the vaccination targets every week.
Reid says 78,479 were delivered last week (target was 80,000).
He says it's important not to judge the daily vaccine numbers (after I asked if there's a map on how they intend to get to 109k for the week having done 5k on Monday)
Paul Reid says he expects the target for Over 85 vaccinations this week will be met.
On the changed vaccination cohorts: Colm Henry says >140,000 are estimated in the 'very high risk' category.
42,000 of those are a variety of cancer patients.
Asked Reid about the NPHET document being shared on the #COVID19 path forward.
He says resources for Public Health teams need to be boosted. He says testing will be part of the response.
He also referenced the 'retrospective contact tracing' - says this'll be facilitated between contact tracing centres and public health teams.
