Dalits, Tribals constitute over 26% of India’s population. That’s 1 out of 4 persons in India.

But do you see as many of them in your offices, high positions or apartment complexes?

Your answer sums up the ground reality. That’s why India needs to continue focusing on them...
Continued focus on Dalits, Tribals means education, capacity building, hand holding for upward mobility, affirmative action in every sector including private & continued reservations.

No nation can progress beyond a point if majority of its population remains dispossessed.
2/n
Leaders who fought for independence and framed our constitution were overwhelmingly upper caste. Then why did they support reservations & focus on Dalits, Tribals?

Because
a) they believed in equality
b) they understood that if over 70% population is remains dispossessed...3/n
...then country simply can’t remain stable & grow beyond a point.

Countries grow when every citizen, who is also a human resource is nurtured & facilitated to contribute optimally.

It’s like companies. If most of the assets r under-performing or idle what will be the result? 4/n
Contrary to upper caste belief, they r actually not supporting others at their cost.

If only less than 30% share the burden of high growth & over 70% r not equipped to contribute fully, growth just won’t happen. Strong nations emerge on the strong shoulders of every citizen 5/n
Also the argument of helping them in every other manner possible, except reservations won’t work.

Because other facilities help in economic upliftment, reservations facilitate share in decision making structures. That’s why affirmative actions are a global practice.

I oppose the removal of subsidy in Parliament canteen.

For heaven’s sake, it doesn’t just cater to MPs, but to over 8000 staff & 3000 security persons too.

Offices, whether govt or corporate, often cater subsidised food.

Good affordable canteen is a right of employees.
1/n
Affordable canteens are a right of employees, just like crèche.

Whether in Tech companies like Google or in Courts, in Army or ONGC, media offices or universities - subsidised canteens are a norm.

Why throw out a basic right of employees in name of anti-politician populism? 2/n
And how many MPs use these canteens? 200 or 300, that too for 60-70 days a years!

Rest, they r facility for employees, media & security

The nearest restaurants are 2-3 km away frm Sansad Bhawan. Are these people supposed to step out in search of cheap food during duty hours?3/n

India produces over 60% of the total vaccines sold globally.

Free Universal Immunisation Programme was launched way back in 1985.

As Covid vaccination rolls out, let applause this great Indian success story, that must be handled with great care to ensure continued credibility
The vaccine production started in British times. Immediately after independence, a vast network of vaccine research and manufacturers was developed that made the success story possible
Expanded Programme of Immunisation was launched in 1978.

People of my age remember the extensive free vaccination in schools and all still have marks of vaccination on our arms.

Small pox to Polio have been eradicated.

free universal immunisation was expanded in 2005

We might be witnessing an interesting legal debate in the days to come.

If the agitating farmers refuse to hold consultations with committee, then what will happen?

Can court force anyone to participate in consultation?

Will the agitation then be held in contempt of court?
Can the right to protest be conditional to persuasive role of the court?

In case of a stalemate, what is the role of the govt?

Will the stay on implementation continue even if agitating farmers’ don’t come to the committee?

If the agitation ends, what will happen to stay?
Can court cap the powers of women & elders to agitate in the name of compassion?

Can any organisation take or be given unilateral responsibility or accountability of any person willingly participating in protests?

What if women & elderly refuse to withdraw from protests?

The controversy on the two Indian covid vaccines is a direct consequence of the lack of credibility of this govt’s decisions.

When unscientific assertions, impulsive decisions, impure data are integral to any govt’s public policy, then all public policies become questionable.
Vaccinating 138 crore won’t be easy. India has successful experience of polio eradication recently and many more in past. Infact, polio vaccine was an oral one, didn’t require trained manpower. Yet it was humongous task and took meticulous planning and execution. 2/n
Covid vaccination is an even more daunting task. The scale of pandemic called for emergency responses in vaccine development, in inventory management and in delivery mechanism. Routine administrative responses would never deliver. Everyone understands it.
Had the govt....
