.@RepBoebert will be the first member of the #GQP Congress to be arrested. Multiple witnesses will testify that she gave these “tours” of the Capitol to Trump’s terrorists on Jan 5th when tours were not being given at the Capitol. It wasn’t a tour. It was a reconnaissance mission
Yes, members of Congress can be arrested even though they are provided additional protections. In Boebert’s case, she is not exempt from arrest as stated in Article 1 section 6 because it does not apply to cases of treason, bribery, or breach of the peace. Check, check, and check
On top of that, Section 3 of the 14th Amendment states: “No person shall be a Senator or Representative in Congress or elector of President and Vice-President, or hold any office, civil or military...[who have] engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the United States.”
While no member of Congress has ever been recalled in U.S. history, they may have their services ended prior to the expiration of their constitutional terms of office by their resignation, death, or by action of the House of Congress in which they sit by way of an expulsion.
I wrote about how expulsion works since it’s a relatively obscure procedure that has seldom been used in our history. However, the actions of @RepBoebert, @RepMTG, @HawleyMO, and @tedcruz ALL UNEQUIVOCALLY meet the criteria for it. THEY MUST BE EXPELLED
While I stated that I thought expulsion of sitting members of Congress was not something we could realistically expect; that was before @GQP members of Congress gave recon tours to terrorists and helped incite an insurrection that killed 8 people. At this point, it’s MANDATORY.
While Trump wreaked incalculable damage to our justice system, he was removed. Merrick Garland will be confirmed as AG and restore the independence & functionality of the DOJ, which means real investigations into Jan 6th including coconspirators in both the DC police & Congress.
I believe that these investigations will result in multiple indictments of Trump’s enablers & coconspirators. If these lead to convictions, it will place enormous pressure on @HouseDemocrats and @SenateDems to hold these members accountable for their seditious & criminal conduct.
It is up to all of us to allow our faith in these institutions to be restored as well as demanding justice and accountability for those who actively incited and participated in the worst terrorist attack on our country since 9/11 & the worst attack on the U.S. Capitol since 1812.
Unsuccessful coups that face little to no consequences are often followed by successful ones. There is no “moving on” without justice and accountability for all who took part in this deadly insurrection. We must ensure consequences to prevent this from ever happening again.
Most people learned about Hitler’s takeover of Germany in 1933 and instigation of World War II but didn’t learn that his first coup attempt came 10 years earlier in 1923. It did not succeed. He faced almost no consequences. And his second one almost gave Nazis global power.

This man has never “sat down with real Americans in diners discussing the 10th Amendment.” I’d bet good money that most people in diners across America and certainly in this crowd couldn’t even tell you what the 10th Amendment states without googling it.
The 10th Amendment isn’t widely discussed or known because it’s had little relevance to political discourse. It simply states “The powers not delegated to the U.S. by the Constitution—nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.”
The simple language of it emphasizes that the national gov’t remains one of limited and enumerated powers. When initially added to the Constitution in 1791, the 10th Amendment stood as a reminder of the continuing importance of states and of the foundational role of the people.

In the next 12 hours, we will surpass 500,000 deaths from COVID-19 in the U.S. That means more American lives have been claimed by this virus than any individual event except for the pandemic of 1918 and the Civil War; both of which will likely be usurped by COVID by early summer
This is not meant to undercut any of the amazing work that the Biden administration is doing to set us on a path to recovery. It is just an undeniable fact that we must face because we had worse than no leadership when this hit us; we had someone actively sabotaging our response.
We are struggling with so many overlapping crises right now that mental health professionals are finding it difficult to differentiate clinical anxiety and depression from simply the normative response that we should be experiencing from the incalculable losses we have suffered.

No, @tedcruz didn’t tweet “I’ll believe in climate change when Texas freezes over.” But he did:
—Help incite an insurrection that killed 8 people
—Help acquit the guy responsible
—Left his constituents & dog to freeze to death w/ no heat or power
—Blamed it on his daughters
Trust me, we don’t need to invent fake quotes/tweets to illustrate the abomination that is @tedcruz. Here’s just a few of his actual quotes on everything from Climate change to ISIS to Obama & the ACA. He’s a human trash can (apologies to trash cans, as they are actually useful).
What’s so remarkably atrocious about @tedcruz is that he is an immigrant who defends a guilty ex-President whose entire tenure was devoted to demonizing them. He is a climate refugee who fled to Cancun and abandoned his constituents and pet.

Currently, more than 4 million people have been without power in Texas for nearly 48 hours in the coldest temperatures Texas has faced in 30 years. It’s @GOP Governor @GregAbbott_TX and senators @tedcruz and @JohnCornyn couldn’t care less.
While many people are still without power or essential items, multiple nonprofit organizations are providing supplies, while warming centers have been set up throughout the state.
Here are some helpful resources:
@lakewoodchurch has a list of warming centers.
.@AustinEHM have activated 24 hour cold weather shelters that accept anyone in need.

The @GOP and right-wing media has expressed more heartfelt condolences over the loss of a pro-slavery, white supremacist, anti-gay, domestic terrorism-denying misogynistic conspiracy theorist & propagandist than they have for the nearly 500,000 Americans that have died from COVID
Rush Limbaugh’s legacy was defined by his own words, rhetoric, and actions over the course of his life. Here’s a rundown of what that looked like. Pretending he’s someone worthy of praise or honor is simply ignoring reality. This is who he was:
Here’s a thread I wrote last February after Trump gave Rush the Presidential Medal of Freedom, which normally designates prestige and honor but coming from Trump was basically a “Worst Human On Earth Award”
