Very chaotic scenes on or around Grafton Street within the last hour.
A full baton charge here.
So just who was here today? It's a lot of mixed groups and individuals, most likely for the most part pissed off with lockdowns. But as elsewhere, these infestations are recruiting groups for the far right.
The National Party fasg leaflets were being distributed.
*Fash.
How do I know leaflets were being handed out?
Look at these men who came up to police lines.
Check the guy in the middle with arms outstretched and with leaflets in his hands.
Check the leaflets
These are National Party 'Let Ireland Live' leaflets.
The vast majority who turned out today had no plans for violence. Some planned a party
They are angry and pissed off and like most of us tired of months of mixed messages.
There is also a propensity for conspiracy in the online communities, legitimise by conservative right
As has been said elsewhere, the video ofar-rightf the baton charge is missing so key moments.
This is being shared in far-right Telegram channels.
Appears to showing a person advancing in the cover of the crowd toward the police and intentionally aiming at fireworks at them.
Proof that the National Party were front and center today
They just posted this on their Telegram, shortly after a protester seems to have been shot in the face by s firework aimed at police.
Like Paisley, Justin Barrett with fight til the last drop of someone else's blood.
A predictable outcome of fascists bringing
street violence are conspiracy chats about ructions being actually by 'antifa'
Doesn't take long.
There is no evidence to say the NP were involved in organising today.
They turned up to exploit the demo.
Small numbers at the GPO 2 mins ago
One thing is predictable about these events. The conservative right will always give cover to messy events that don't actually challenge their own investment in an unequal society.
If this was a workers demo, I suspect the reaction would be different.
Housekeeping note: Calling everyone who turned out 'scum' and 'lowlifes' & other comments like that? It's just wrong in loads of levels
Comments about tracksuits or being on the dole? Both BIG pass times of mine over the years so please keep class bigotry off this thread 🙏
Some self reflections coming in on Telegram. Instructive that in all these 'anti lockdown' group there is the complete absenting of Covid19 itself.
The frame is entirely people v government (or other super power)
Conversations repeat, fold back and loop
All ignoring Covid19
Doing the rounds now.
Someone saying the quiet part out loud. Not the conspiracy bit. The bit about a lot of folks involved are 'business owners' petit-bourgeois
Covid19+capitalism isn't working for them.
Covid *can't* care about that
Capital C Capitalism doesnt care either
Ethno-nationalist Paul O Neill who grifts under the name Critiqued now pushing the 'plant' line.
The fash do this all the time. Previously accused me of flying some lad over to Ireland to join then outside Google and give a Nazi salute.
This will be the line now too
I've been all over the feeds of this all day, as have others and there is no evidence of any far left presence
H/t @TurloughADK
"complaints@rte.ie, folks - they'll reject but have to respond and you can escalate to the BAI and get it out in public"
Paul Reynolds regularly comes across as an idiot because, for better or worse, part of the gig is repeating the idiotic shite coming from the Garda Press Office.
Like today being 'the far right versus the far left'
RTE is *doing* misinformation on the 6 o clock news
The Garda Commissioner is either very badly briefed or making stuff up on the hoof that is just plain stupid
Either is a concern.
He's claiming here the far right and 'far left' - ie fash and socialists - were mixing and working together today
That is complete nonsense.
OK gonna (hopefully) close this thread off for the day with some personal thoughts about some of this
1 Its entirely understandable people want blame and do s/thing that gives them agency in moment of history that actually very fucked up. Transgression are part of that.
So....
Some people today wanted a street party (stupid in covid, but hey they are taking the risk themselves and with each other while actually having agency when so much is of that is gone)
THEY DONT THINK THEY ARE PART OF SUPERIOR RACE
That's a big different with others there today.
When it boils down to it, the NP believe in race science. They refute that we are one human race. That's it. They believe many of us are degenerates. People who want to party in a plague? Frustrated misguided & yes stupid but they are VERY different from fascists.
Fuck Fascists
Unfortunately Facebook, Twitter and YouTube, all happily benefiting from Ireland being a tax abusers paradise, along far-right organising on their platforms.
Multiple mass shootings by people across the globe who share NP politics isnt enough for them to click delete.
And yes it is a shit show these tech companies have this impact on our societies while sucking up profits like a coke freak. But thats another thread
I'm not one to say I told you so. But.. Yesterday the Garda Commissioner said the "far left" were at then demo
Today the Garda Commissioner released a statement saying the there was no corroboration that "extreme far left" was present.
So over night we went from far left being at the demo to no evidence that the extreme far left was there.
Even in a total retraction the cops are hamming it up.
Sunday Times reporting that people present yesterday blaming 'Antifa a left wing group'. No expansion on that.
And uncritically quotes Hermann Kelly of the IFP, pushing his own conspiracy of the firework being fired by a 'agent provocateur.'
The claim isn't addresssed
BREAKING: Footage from yesterday showing the true nature of the National Party.
The NP think protest movement has peaked to soon
The NP are very open about 'slaughtering' people.
Here's that full video, didn't realise it was just a clip above
Eh ok!
"Hi John no offence mate do you not think your picture will send the wrong message? If this picture were to get out to the public domain it might send a message that this is a terrorist organisation which is something we really do not need. Think about it mate."

67% of people - that's over 2/3 of respondents support current measure or want *stronger* measures right now to reduce #COVID19 in Irish society in a poll carried out by the Irish Times.
Here how the Irish Timespresents that finding in its own poll.
This question doesn't even make sense and contains false equivalents.
- 'Living with Covid strategy' is not the same as 'getting back to normal.'
-Zero Covid is a contested term, but no description I've seen anywhere reduced complexity what the IT poll is saying it means.
The gov may be damned if they do or don't.
But worst case for them is losing a pensionable job before joining private sector.
Worse case for us is deaths, grief and long term sickness. And more lockdowns to worsen the economy.
Una McGurk has a new video up on the Irish Freedom Partys website. Headed by Hermann Kelly, the IFP pushes anti-migrant and anti-refugee hate
Una was this week booted off the International Protection Appeals Tribunal.
Every ITAP case she has been involved in need reexamination
The IFP & Kelly push the 'Great Replacement' white supremacist conspiracy theory.
This 'theory' has been used by many white supremacist mass murderers.
Brutal acts of political violence driven by, and in some cases staged for, the international white nationalist movement.
Unclear if Una McGurk endorses The Great Replacement theory as espoused by Kelly many times
Its curious she would have a video posted an organisation with such scummy worldviews in the same week she was booted off a panel looking at the cases of people seeking state protection.
1/ Thread: Big (and good) questions for #StopCeta, now Dail vote been kicked back to a committee. (Woop woop, yes give yourselves that) It's very clear that a none to small section *within* the Greens are winning so far.
2/ While until now, understandably, much focus has been on the Green party in gov as a whole, wider anti Ceta movement needs to go beyond. And definitely avoid the printed soap opera from pol corrs.
3/ Much of media focus will lazer in on potential Green split around #StopCETA. And FG/FF and most political correspondents will want to keep that focus. CETA as political drama. Dont get distracted by that.
2/ The asylum staff had already shown militancy during a 1918 strike when they chased away visiting staff who attempted to cross the picket line. By 1919, attendants and nurses were working a 93-hour week and earning just £60-£70 per annum.
3/ They invited Peadar O'Donnell, a leading militant in the Irish Transport and General Workers Union, to negotiate on their behalf. And when negotiations failed to resolve their grievances, they hoisted the red flag and ran the asylum in cooperation with the patients.
Parsing the data dump from Parler will take some time.
But just to give you an idea of its use.
This is a global shot of videos uploaded over a defined time period.
Fair to say Parler was mostly US users.
From this data set, UK (England?) was the second biggest user set
The data set lets you drill down a fair bit. Each of those dots on the map is a geo-located video upload.
During the upload Parler -unlike say Twitter - retained location metadata. Sloppy operation.
Privacy probably not a big concern if your profiting off hate merchants...
As the US impeaches its President for a second time and the FBI has issued warnings about potentially armed paramilitaries at each of all 50 capitol buildings over the next few weeks, its probably a good a time as any for anti-fascists (thats most of us yeah) to get this data
While people are out volunteering to help with vaccines, and wages have been effectively stagnant for most of the population, this TD is happy to bump up their own wages on the Monday to Friday......
