You enjoy writing, might have a blog, or just write tweets here and there.
If you don't know, copywriting = persuasive writing.
Like sales, but written.
I am NOT a professional copywriter
But every single marketer who's made $1m+ understands it to at least an advanced degree.
> Pick ONE from above
> Study the fuck out of it (YouTube/courses/etc)
> Start writing articles, sales pages, emails etc
> PRACTICE until you are decent
Read every book and piece of online content from these people:
Gary Halbert
Gary Bencivenga
Joseph Sugarman
David Ogilvy
Michael Masterson
2 - Who can you sell it to?
Business that make a shit ton of money.
> Ecom stores
> Course creators
> SaaS
Why? Because it's easy to filter out the people that have money from those that don't.
SO
If this is something you plan on doing
Take the next 2-3 months to learn one of the skills above
> Read at least 10 copywriting books, twice
> Buy a specialized course
> Write 100 pieces of copy
3 - Landing your first clients.
Since you'll be writing 100 pieces of copy, just go write the copy for somebody's product FOR FREE.
Then cold email them and TELL them you wrote new copy.
GIVE it to them.
FREE
4 - Tell them if they want more work done you'll charge them.
Now 4 months have elapsed and you're EXTREMELY good at copy.
Now ASK all 100 people,
"How much money did you make?"
5 - Now you have case studies.
It's time for cold email.
Here we go...
First thing you need is the email of the DECISION MAKER
The person that is going to pay you
Here is a thread on how to scrape any emails you will need:
> Attention grabbing subject line
> Personalized compliment
> Case study
> Call to action
Here's an example for a SaaS business.
Subject:
Hey {{name}}!!
Email:
"Congrats on landing that new funding round. No doubt you'll be able to absolutely smoke {{competitor}}
I'm the one who wrote the copy on {{other SaaS company}}'s site. Their trial signup rate went from 1.8% to 2.5% which led to roughly $226k more revenue over 3 months.
What I did for them, I can do exactly for you. You free to talk tomorrow?"
Simple, readable, and effective.
When they respond, send them a link to book a call with you
Then pitch your services
To recap:
> Learn copywriting so your writing skills are more valuable
> Write 100 pieces of copy to become extremely good
> Land clients with cold email
> Get results and land more clients
