For some of us, the stock market just got exciting this year. For others — 53% of US families to be exact — stock trading has been a mainstay of home economics.

More Americans than ever are invested in the market. But @USAFacts found inequalities remain.

Stock ownership is far from equal. @USAFacts found:

• The average white investor owns over 3x more stock than Black or Hispanic investors.
• Investors 65+ own 43% of the market.
• 61% of white families own stock, 34% of Black families, and 24% of Hispanic families.
• And:
Throughout his presidency, Donald Trump loved to repeat the claim that “everybody” owns stocks.

Back in September, @Griffin explained why that’s wildly out of touch with the financial reality of most U.S. households.
But a lot has changed in 2021. Between COVID and GameStop, where does the market stand?

As unemployment soared in the pandemic, investments actually increased. Wall Street journalist @andrewrsorkin explains the perplexing phenomenon on #HHW with @jheil: recount.co/HHW
Are *you* invested in the stock market, either directly or through mutual funds and retirement plans?

Sound off below and tell us why or why not.

Georgia’s Black population turned out in record numbers for the November election. They clinched the victory for Joe Biden, the first Democrat to win the state since 1992.

Now, Republicans in the state want to make it harder for Georgians to vote.
motherjones.com/politics/2021/…
GA state Republicans have introduced bills to drastically change voting procedures.

One House bill limits weekend early voting to just one Saturday — eliminating early voting on Sundays, when Black churches hold “Souls to the Polls” events.
npr.org/2021/02/19/969…
The bills, released with little public notice, tick voter suppression boxes:

✅ Adding voter ID requirements to mail-in ballots
✅ Limiting the time frame to request & send back ballots
✅ Ending no-excuse absentee voting
✅ Removing ballot drop boxes
