Hey what's up! If you're reading this, I'm currently in hospital getting my genitals rearranged. This thread is gonna be a lil sporadic diary and I'd also like to write it up properly once I'm sat up and in the mood...
There's not gonna be a lot of juicy details here because 1) I'm family friendly and 2) my boss follows me lmao. I have a secret alt and if you're chill I'll share it with you!
Anyway yeah, most vaginoplasty stories are US-centric and the few UK ones I've read to prepare myself come from the before-COVID times. It's different now, and some stuff really sucks, so if you're looking at bottom surgery it might be worth considering if you should wait.
So previously I've had my consultation (the one with the binder full of various labia) and pre-op checks. The bloods and MRSA swab were supposed to be done by my GP, but they couldn't fit me in. Luckily I had a backup, but yeah.
I also lost 10kg in the last few months. I only needed to lose 4, but I was told the more I lost the happier I'd be with the outcome. Being off HRT has helped with that, although it's been awful for everything else -_-
I had 7 days of isolation leading up to today, which was no different to the current lockdown except an extra week off work and my partner had to do the shopping. I also had a covid swab at my local private hospital
So anyway tonight I got booked in and my room is lush (I'm used to NHS standards). Only met the ward nurses, HCAs and housekeeper so far and they're all wonderful!
Enjoy the pictures because this is the last time I'll be standing up for a little while 😂 ImageImageImageImage
I also want to make a list of what to bring. You get an official one (at least from this team) but it's definitely written with an older and I guess more traditional girly girl in mind. Plus with no visitors at all it's extremely important to bring enough to keep you occupied
The list will come after I find out what I've forgotten 😂
Btw if you've got this far please consider a like and RT! Or if you know a UK trans person thinking about GRS send it to them! I wanna be as helpful as possible ♥️
The other thing to talk about before I go to sleep is getting here. Because of 'rona you can't use any public transport. Not even a taxi. That's gonna be tricky for some people - I live in the Midlands and have a car, but you should think about it very carefully.
(I should also say some details might be different for the other two hospitals doing GRS on the NHS but I'll try to be broad. If you've recently been to ChX or I wanna say Parkside(?) feel free to jump in!)
Anyway me and Peaches are going to try and sleep. I can't drink from 5am so my extremely friendly nurse is gonna bring me a coffee just before then 🥰🥰🥰 Image
Okay first thing I forgot: hair stand if you need one! If one of my patients used the suction meter for it I would be so cross, so don't tell anyone, okay??? 🤫 Image
Anyway if you want juicy deets you're gonna want to follow @vyrthandi who writes gooder than me and has already been spilling some serious post-op tea tbh
Yeah don't be expecting anything like this from me, anaesthetists use the good stuff in the UK and I plan to be off my head (and without my hair) for a good few hours 😎

You will be shocked to hear that I am not asleep and in fact pacing the room. Hello new people! Tell your friends! I should also probably introduce myself???
sup I'm Cass. I'm 25, nb trans fem, she/they. I work as an A&E (ER) nurse. I have recently come to the realisation that a lot of the weird stuff I do is because of a missed diagnosis of ADHD so I'm dealing with that and this at the same time 😂 just a slut for a waiting list tbh Image
I came out in 2014/15 when I was studying Biology in SW London. Came in to nursing after mostly completing my transition, save for this bit which I was on the fence about until I started thinking about where my doubts were coming from- yeah turns out I'm non-binary 🤷‍♀️
Anyway back to not me- sorry to get all #medtwitter on all you fine trans people but this is my first time in a long time as a patient rather than a nurse and I am blown away by how important #hellomynameis is. One person has not said it so far, and it was honestly a bit jarring.
Also, giving permission to use the call bell! It's something I try to do but hearing my nurse tell me specifically that I can use it at any time for any reason was SO reassuring. Lesson here is don't just drape it over the side rail, talk about it!
Are you kidding me? #CassSRS hasn't been used before. FRIENDS WE HAVE A HASHTAG
More #nursethoughts: this bit at the end of the bed needs to go. My pillow keeps slipping down it. @ whoever is in charge of this stuff, can we sort this out pls, ideally before I go home. Image
Peaches has entirely succumbed to the void :/ RIP Image
Spoiler alert future Cass but you are gonna post something like this and it's just about to cross 6k likes lmao

If you care about trans people, PLEASE tell your friends and family what's going on.

Most people in this country support trans people's right to be healthy and happy, but at the moment a small number of bad actors control our lives. It doesn't have to be this way.
This can easily be fixed. GPs are prohibited from prescribing us common treatments that cis patients get every day. Gender Identity Clinics, the main bottleneck for our care, do nothing except rule out another cause of us being trans.
People think GICs are experts who prescribe treatments for us- they aren't. GPs prescribe the treatments. The GIC just decides if you're trans enough first.

We need patient-centered care.

Nurses listen up: all I wanted last night was pain relief. I got it. And it didn't work. It was obvious I was in retention but my brain was in pain mode. We all know to do this, but in the moment it's easy to panic and give more PRN morphine.
The pain ladder is all well and good, but it took a sensible, calm nurse to come along, say no to the morphine, ignore the inconclusive bladder scan, and flush the catheter. Now I am pain free and have had 5 hours of beautiful sleep.
Guys I'm gonna have so many reflection opportunities for my revalidation this year 😂😂

Recurrent tonsillitis occludes my airway or goes septic at 3. Failing that, a barber treating my messed up teeth gives me pericarditis at 10. If I survive that, I get burned and/or flogged for doing whatever trans people did then. History was bad, do not recommend.
Genuinely interested who would have sorted messed up teeth in the 1400s. Were barbers a thing yet?
Actually never mind. I was a C-section baby. Me and mum wouldn't have made it to lunch time on the day I was born 😂😂

It's day 3! Big day today, I'M GONNA STAND UP!

Links below if you're just joining the party. Yesterday was hard so I didn't post as much as I wanted. Hoping today will be a little more smooth. ☺️
If you're just joining in, head back to the start:
Also support your nearest transition fund ♥️ and if you like nice stuff hanging from your face go to slowgoldie.com she's not paying me anything, I just love her face and she's been there for me since I was a baby tran in London ♥️♥️♥️ Image

Medical people, listen up! It's a debate as old as time itself, so I'm gonna settle it.

I have 2 drains out tomorrow. One left, one right. The idea is that breathing in or out when pulling it makes it easier, but people disagree which. So I'm gonna do both. MAKE YOUR PREDICTION.
@nohandsup didn't you once bring this up? 👀
Breathing out -expanding your abdomen to make your thorax smaller- has a safe lead! It makes sense, but is it right? Guess we'll find out soon 🤷‍♀️ #CassSRS #suspense #NobelPrize

Good morning, day 2! I am in a moderate amount of pain but my brain is still pumping out happy juice by the bucket. ♥️

Nothing to add so far, but stay tuned. #CassSRS

If you want to catch up, click below! I hope it's fun and informative 🥰

Postin' time! Woke up to turn Lily off (we fell asleep together on video call ♥️) and realised it was ivabx time so I stayed awake and waited for the nurse. She came and attached the bits and did my blood pressure - 85/something (been above 125 systolic all day).
This could be a few things but the immediate concern is a bleed. She's had a look, checked the drain, checked the character and it seems fine. Our theory is I had a truckload of opiates today and the last one, oramorph, is just wearing off and I'm not compensating quickly.
