Two days ago I had the best spiritual and psychological conversation I have had in years with @haideralmosawi

Honestly felt life changing and deserves a thread of its own

Learned prayer is 27x more effective w others

Got me feeling need to get back into a live faith community
But then last night, prayed for UX inspiration - and was drawn to Library App from Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

And it provided... SO MANY ANSWERS
I’ve always been drawn to Islam.

Studied Arabic in my spare time in high school and college with help from Ahmed at the Citgo station (thanks Ahmed!), Rosetta Stone cds, and library book I never returned

House of Wisdom inspired Astrolabe as Roam Logo

But it was @cayblood and @transfigurism that first connected the dots between an existing theology and the Simulation Argument

And honestly - I find this idea extremely convincing... and also like the UX of the hypermedia structured argument

new-god-argument.com
But then... if I hadn’t read a biography of Mohammad and been deeply inspired—might not have thought to move into a van and cut my burn long enough to ship the Roam mvp and meet Josh
Intergalactic Islam and #LDSonLSD seem equally plausible visions of a flourishing future.

Word of Wisdom clearly not a statement against entheogens, and psychedelics absolutely not haram.

Both tweet above and this one had my DMs flooded with genuinely serious spiritual seekers, and soon after tweeting this one felt called to settle in Utah (only place I’ve been that was this beautiful was when I went camping with bedouins in Jordan)

I’ll be praying on it — but right now it’s close enough split to “ask the internet”

In your honest opinion, Should I be Mormon or Muslim?
@webdevMason says both prohibit my worst vices so it’s probably good out on regardless

I’m registered Mormon Transhumanist - and anointed secret Muslim by one of my oldest friends

A long time ago - before I had Roam -- I saw a post or thread about "the Conventional Wisdom that the Conventional Wisdom is wrong"

It argued that the folks most likely to complain about FAANG whiteboard interviews were those who did not get a job.

Ring any bells anyone?
That isn't it -- it was longer thread or post on how you should be skeptical that complaints mean there is a problem

I want to hear more stories of folks with #adhd who have really successfully implemented this.

Self trust, positive self talk. Who has gone from not having this to having this and what did you do to make the change.
This is way too real.

Somehow I was able to compartmentalize and keep long term insanely hard promises to myself — but still have massive guilt and shame around broken micro commitments like showing up to meetings on time
Had a roommate who was pissed at me for not remembering to put away his sun lamp try to tie those together

if you can’t remember to do this tiny thing, how can anyone trust you for larger projects like Roam

this was maybe a year before launch - we were close to out of cash...

Interesting... I’ve mostly only seen my mother ask this question to White Americans, and it’s literally first thing she asks most everyone I introduce her to...

We’re first gen immigrants - most are pretty confused at first, say things like “Ohio”

Never an acceptable answer
The obsession with individuality and desire to be detached from our ancestors has long long history in America — most of us came here because it offered something better than where we were — but curiosity about family history seems like dangerous subject to label as racist.
Is it still racist if my mom decides it is ONLY safe to ask white people this question, and decides anyone else is more likely to be offended than have it to be a nice conversation starter...

Can see how someone might assume they’re getting special treatment - but not here

Why do we need need new tools for collective intelligence?

The sensemaking system that produced this is still dominant.
Turns out, was not “just the flu”

And Corona wasn’t and isn’t the only thing the news is wrong about

Al-Khwarizmi is often referred to as the father of algebra – a word we owe to him, from the Arabic al-jabr, “the restoring of broken parts”

So much beautifully appropriate history, and quite a lot to live up to
