Hi, my name is Maersk Denver and I am the most unlucky container #ship in the world.

Why? Because I am the ship that famous photo of #EverGiven aground in the #Suez Canal was taken from.

I was a couple of week far from my destination when Julianne Cona shot it.

Thread 🚢
She is one of our marine engineer.
And, yes, she is a #woman.

By the way I think you should definetely thank Julianne for letting the #world #economy know they were f*cked, in the exact moment it happened.

I am starting: thanks to make us famous, J!
But I was telling you...
...about our luck.

Well, we were quite ahead of #EverGiven when we approached the Suez Canal.

We would be already in the #Mediterranean Sea by now if they had not cut us off entering the Suez canal!

What happened next is already #history.
They stranded just in front of us...
And just in the goofy way you see it.

At first it was funny, then the ship behind us lost the engine trying to reverse and we risked a huge pile-up.

Maybe you don't know but we enter the canal in groups of 10-20 ship sometimes.

That wasn't funny. The guy with the digger was!
Anyway, I had never seen a so many tugs in my whole ship life. And I am quite an old lady in this business.

In my experience even 20 tugs - plus a digger of course - won't move that monster from egyptian sand very soon.

So here I was.
Stuck in the sandstorms, first of hundreds Suez Canal, Egypt March 25, 2021 by Ahmed Fahmy for Reuters
We were just two weeks from destination, but this morning we realized we had to ask for a couple of tugs too.

They gently tow my stern back in the gulf.

And now we are planning to do it like Vasco da Gama did it in the late fourteen hundreds: heading the Cape of Good Hope!
We can unload cointaners headed to Mediterranean and turn Cape town.

But the idea is bad, because first you need to sail somali and nigerian coast with pirates.
And then we'll be back one month from destination.

I am the most #unlucky ship in the world. Told ya!

Yours, Denver
@threadreaderapp could you unroll? Thanks!
