“Not only was I not being protected, but they were willing to lie to protect other members of the family” she said. “They weren’t willing to tell the truth to protect me & my husband”
“Members of the BRF rarely issue personal statements, and the family’s media team rarely goes on the record with the press in response to a story or request for comment. (BP didn’t provide an on-the-record response for this article. A spox for the Sussexes said, “No comment.”)”
“It’s important to understand the outsize influence the Palace press office wields as it manages the UK media’s voracious hunger for royal family coverage. It can try to kill false or misleading stories before publication (journalists have said as much)”
“it can contest claims made by anonymous sources by going on the record; it can use pressure, particularly in the form of access to the royals or legal threats, to reframe false or unflattering articles.”
“But the Palace generally didn’t go on the record to correct a damaging narrative involving Meghan unless the story also had the potential to tarnish the monarchy’s conservative reputation...or that of the future monarchs, William and Kate.”
“By November 2019, six months after her wedding, a distinctly negative narrative about Meghan had emerged in the UK press.”
“An anonymously sourced report in a Nov. 26 Telegraph story alleged that Meghan made Kate cry during the wedding planning process. The tabloids seized the story, & a “Meghan vs. Kate” narrative was born. (The British press has always loved to pit royal women against each other.)”
“this particular story marked “a turning pt” when “everything changed” for the Sussexes, Meghan told Oprah. Despite the fact that “everyone,” incl members of the BRF, knew the story in the press was wrong & that it had...been Kate who made her cry” the Palace...didn’t correct it”
“The review indicated that the Palace was more likely to go on the record to defend Kate, and they were more aggressive about protecting her public image than they were about protecting Meghan’s.”
“As I showed last year, the UK press didn’t need much encouragement to favor Kate over Meghan in its royal coverage. Indeed, the Palace has protected Kate from the pettiest of negative press for a decade”
“We don’t know the internal deliberations of the Palace’s press team. What we do know is what they say— or don’t say — in public.”
In her lawsuit against the Fail on Sunday, Meghan said she felt “unprotected by the institution.” This article explains why. buzzfeednews.com/article/elliev…

On the one hand,I’m happy that so many people in Nottingham will be helped by Meghan’s donation to @wearehimmah. OTOH, I’m so incredibly fvcking angry that the character assassination perpetrated by the UK media & sanctioned by the palace made the trustees question announcing it.
The charity accepted & spent the money, so clearly their issue wasn’t with Meghan’s values but with public perception, despite the work she & Harry have put into the Nottingham community supporting projects like Full Effect & the Community Recording Studio.
Meghan even made a solo visit to Nottingham Academy to mentor students & invited one to attend their wedding. She went on to be secret pen pals with another student recovering from a brain tumor. bbc.com/news/uk-englan…
“I’m resigning from my position on the board of the SoE. I didn’t do so in the immediate aftermath of Ian Murray’s statement saying the UK press wasn’t bigoted b/c I was assured by fellow board members that a robust rebuttal...would soon be forthcoming” pressgazette.co.uk/eleanor-mills-…
“Two weeks after the extraordinary board mtg in the wake of Murray’s departure that apology & clear statement about the Society’s current view in regards to whether the lack of diversity in our newsrooms amounts to structural racism in the UK media is still not forthcoming.”
“I have lost confidence in the SOE ever delivering such a statement. Unlike many board members I have no institutional ties keeping me from resigning on this matter of principle, so today that is what I am doing.”
Clarence House held a reception for royal reporters Sept 7 2018. Do we think Richard Palmer was the only one invited or just a case of selective amnesia from the rest of the Royal Rota? @cnn@NewDay@MaxFosterCNN@JohnBerman@AlisynCamerota
Are people upset b/c Meghan said their private exchange of vows was more meaningful to her than the public wedding? @newday@cnn is @MaxFosterCNN relying on SussexRoyal Instagram for his scoops? That’s where I saw #HarryAndMeghan formalize their vows.
Great news for @wearehimmah! They are a “a grass roots community-based initiative tackle poverty, mental wellbeing, racism and social exclusion.” Perfect fit for Meghan. Nottingham was the city #HarryAndMeghan visited first following their engagement.
Like so many charities, @wearehimmah has struggled to meet the increased need spurred by the pandemic as donations have decreased just when they’re needed most. Meghan’s donation to help stock the food bank couldn’t be more timely. #MeghanMarkle#DuchessOfSussex
Meghan previously made a similar donation to @migratefulUK. This was one of the things that most impressed me about the Together cookbook. Ongoing sales continue to generate profits to support her mission to empower communities like the #HubbCommunityKitchen & beyond.👏🏾
“Splash News & Picture Agency, which has been fighting the duchess in a privacy case, has also been a notable name for suing celebrities for posting images of themselves on social media.” 🙌🏾😂 #MeghanMarkle#HerPowerhollywoodreporter.com/thr-esq/papara…
“Splash News & Picture Agency, a prominent paparazzi shop, has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. A global pandemic that had celebrities staying indoors is partly to blame, but also notable is Splash's legal adventures over the years”
“both as a plaintiff suing celebrities for posting copyrighted images of themselves as well as a defendant in a privacy action brought by #MeghanMarkle. Having difficulty navigating the financial situation, Splash reports having defaulted on a loan now worth nearly $1 million”
“Voicing concern about an "avalanche of misinformation" in the digital world, #PrinceHarry is joining the Aspen Institute's new Commission on Information Disorder as a commissioner. Harry, 14 other commissioners & 3 co-chairs will conduct a 6-month study” cnn.com/2021/03/24/med…
“Journo Katie Couric,Color of Change pres Rashad Robinson & Chris Krebs, the former dir of the US Cybersecurity & Infrastructure Security Agency, are the co-chairs. "This info crisis undermines confidence in our democratic institutions & strikes right at the foundation of society”
“That's what Aspen,a leading nonprofit, wants to examine. The institute announced its Commission on Info Disorder in Jan w/ a mandate to develop "actionable public-private responses." The commission will begin to meet in April & will hold a series of briefings with outside experts”
