(1) An interesting development in Georgia, where so many current controversies seem to be playing out.

I watched this clip then ended up finding out who Mary Norwood is: ajc.com/news/atlanta-n…
(2) Gotta say I am rather unimpressed by Mary Norwood. Either say you're a Trump supporter or not. It's pretty simple.

How in the world you expect to get elected to anything in ATL in future is beyond me.

So many people have aligned themselves with Sidney Powell. Not smart.
(3) Regarding the GA state speaker's letter to the ATL Mayor about street crime there... yikes. Both politicians are missing the point but at least the Mayor doesn't align herself with those who condone domestic terrorism, AFAIK.

I'm referring to the Trump faction of the GOP.
(4) Unlike some politicians, I'm able to say I believe that all violence is wrong. And that political violence takes it up a notch, and that when elected officials get involved in it, then an existential level of crime is involved.

I oppose violent crime in both ATL and DC.
(5) I want to see those cities' crime rates decrease, ASAP.

Violent crime against the lawful occupants of a building such as the US Capitol is a bigger issue to confront than street crime with no particular political motive.
(6) I have tried for several years to convince everyone I meet online that liberal tropes about the South are inaccurate and just as racist as anything else. I still believe that, because to do otherwise is to stereotype, which is part of how racism works, whoever is the target.
(7) However, (you knew there was gonna be a however, right?)... some Republican officials in GA rn are making it kinda hard to get traction on that issue. I believe in debating ideas on their merits iso inserting race, gender, age etc into it. That's not always easy to do.
(8) Sometimes Southern conservatives get it wrong & I wish the person was not on my team. Like AL Gov Kay Ivey. I've pretty much given up on her. Seeing the gray haired white male Republican official chiding the Mayor of ATL about crime rates at this time didn't sit well with me.
(9) He's right, in that officials have a duty to do all they can to prevent and reduce violent crime in their jurisdiction. But rather a lot of R politicians are silent about the abject failure of their most recent POTUS to do that. It's the elephant in the room, excuse the pun.
(10) I've laid out in several other threads the evidence and logical steps that support my assertions about Trump and 1/6, so I won't add them here. I care very much about the rule of law and the saving of lives, esp. in the USA, where I don't even live.
(11) That's all, I don't have any gems of wisdom to add with respect to the political powder keg in Georgia. It's a great state that I wish wasn't such a lightning rod for all this stuff. I think that much-needed healing is a long way off. I never give up hope, though.🇺🇸

(1) The latest example of stupidity by activists trying to politicize everything, often by referring to race.

Both sides do it! This time it's the MAGA crowd. I don't call them conservatives, bc I'm part of the #PostTrumpGOP trying to save the party from the toxic Trump brand.
(2) The alleged murder happened 4 days ago. MAGA activists have jumped to conclusions iso taking just 10 minutes to find the facts.

It was the DC Met Police who used the term "accident," not particularly CNN.

It was clumsy but it's not unusual for LEOs to use the term.
(3) Read the PD statement below. As usual, the first they heard of the incident was when a bystander reported what he or she thought was a car accident. Only later did the PD find it was an alleged murder and car crash/wreck.

(1) "I was born in a small town, and I can breathe in a small town" - John Mellencamp, 1985

We didn't have a mall, let alone two of them, lol.

Our experiences mean #GenXWillSaveTheWorld.

Enjoy the music video:

Good mall
Bad mall
(2) I've been thinking about American politics since the early 1980s, before I even went to high school. Also British, New Zealand, and Australian politics.

I ended up entering the NZ political world as a policy analyst and PR advisor after earning a political science degree.
(3) After some years I became so frustrated with the way things were going in my chosen profession that I walked away from it.

Now I share my opinions here & feel completely unencumbered in that. It's good for the soul to express yourself, test your ideas & learn from others.

(1) The word "heckled" is trending bc Ds think it's funny that Rs used it.

OK kids, what word should they have used instead? Approached? Saw? Heard from?

Why were cartel members near a group of US Senators trying to gather first hand info about a national security issue?
(2) Why were the Senators there, you ask.

Because they have been trying to get the Biden administration to keep it's transparency promise by allowing reasonable oversight access to federal sites, to allow Congress to do its job.

The Trump admin allowed Ds & media access.
(3) And are you saying the level of attempted illegal immigration at the Southern Border right now is NOT a humanitarian crisis?

Or is it easier to focus on the choice of one word, "heckled"?

Democrats, you would get far more political mileage out of this incident if you understood the context of the GA exec branch's security concerns in relation to 1/6.

The threat they are justifiably trying to manage is from the Qanon MAGA crowd. Info about that below.
GA is, unfortunately, home to some of the most violent & seditious elements among the MAGA movement, Qanon, & those arrested for rioting on 1/6.

Gov Kemp's daughter had been dating Harrison Deal for 2 years & was likely to end up marrying her.

He tragically died in Dec 2020.
I'm not saying the arrest today had anything to do with a specific security threat. I'm saying that law enforcement charged with keeping a governor safe would be on high alert given events of recent months. Trump publicly harassed & lied about Kemp for weeks. Kemp kept his cool.

(1) I might, I repeat might, write a thread about my journey from Trump supporter to Trump critic.

I have thread ideas all the time but there aren't enough hours in the day to do each idea justice. Numbering makes it easier to find threads.

Becoming an indy has been GREAT...
(2) I now feel capable of evaluating the policy proposals of Rs, Ds, & everyone else & assessing the likelihood of future political outcomes.

It's really hard to do this well when you're wedded to the viewpoints of one side. I am still a conservative ofc but - I'm an indy one.
(3) Four years of defending MAGA policies gave me a good education about conservative policies; economic, social, foreign, and domestic.

I now defend C policies on a case by case basis, while critiquing the GOP's ability to advance them, bc I want the GOP to succeed in future.

(1) Short thread (I promise) about the pilot rant caught on a hot mic while in the cockpit.

As funny as this is, he's now in trouble with authorities bc as he should know, he breached safety regulations, which are there good reason. Here's why.

(2) I would laugh whether it was a liberal pilot ranting about conservative culture or a conservative pilot ranting about liberal culture. I don't care about the topic.

As the smarter among my readers know, I care about safety.
(3) When a pilot does something like this, he or she reveals a lack of professionalism, and insufficient concern for the safety of everyone on the aircraft.

And, even above 10,000 feet, what you say ends up on the cockpit voice recorder, too.
