FINANCIAL CUSHIONING MEASURES FOR THE PEOPLE OF
MACHAKOS COUNTY DUE TO COVID-19 PROTOCOLS
At this time of hard economic times due to the Covid-19 pandemic, it is important that as Kenyans we all pull together to assist each other.
We can’t expect all solutions to come from His Excellency the President. Each one of us need to have a humanitarian heart and do something withing our powers and ability to assist Kenyans.
To this end and to cushion my people of Machakos, I have engaged various business community players and today I announce the following measures that will make life more bearable during this period of hard economic times.
1. 100% waiver of interest and penalties of land rates for a period of 45 days, up to May 15th, 2021. 2. Monthly registration fees by public transport operators reduced by 50%. 3. No payment of taxes by Mama mbogas in all our markets.
4. No payment of any fees and charges by Boda Boda operators. 5. All fees for Tuk Tuks and Marutis suspended until June 30th, 2021. 6. Fire license fees in all small businesses suspended for this calendar year.
7. Land sub-division charges suspended for three months up to June 30th, 2021. 8. A reduction of 50% of the tariff paid by wholesalers and distributors domicile in Machakos County. This includes distribution permits and parking fees for the distribution vehicles.
9. 50% waiver of the single business permit for all private learning (schools) institutions for this calendar year.
10. With partnership with popular MULLEY’S Supermarket, there will be a reduction on the prices of the selected commodities when purchased at Mulley’s Supermarket countrywide.
For example, if you spend 3,000/= buying food related items at Mulley’s Supermarket you save 500/=. Some of the commodities whose prices have been slashed include foodstuffs such as unga, cooking oil, soaps, tissues, milk, bread etc. (please see the attached discount list.
I congratulate Mulley’s Supermarket for your big and caring heart and for standing with our people at this time of hard times. You are foregoing profits and even eating into your operating costs at this time because you care more about people and lives than money. God bless you.
I urge other industry players to also forfeit a bit of their profits by lowering the prices of their goods so as to cushion Kenyans.
11. I call on the petroleum industry to find a way of reducing the price of paraffin, petrol & diesel at this time of hardship.
12. As was done before, I urge His Excellency the President to intervene with
Kenya Power and Lighting Company so that they don’t not disconnect
power from Kenyans who are struggling to pay for power at this time.
13. A large number of Kenyans are finding it difficult to pay rent. I urge landlords to also reduce the amount of rent for a certain period of time. I also urge them to be a bit patient when a tenant delays in the payment of rent, during this tough period.
This is our country and the solutions to our problems lie in our hands as leaders and Citizens. We have within us, the power to help each other and to lift each other up. Let our hearts be warm and caring. When we all do this, we will all rise as one and live blessed lives.
Politicians should not just be driven by greed, only planning for 2022. They should first exhibit a human heart & undertake measures to uplift our people who are facing hardships at this time of Covid-19 pandemic. Thank you, God bless Machakos & God bless our country Kenya.

This morning, millions of educated and hardworking youth woke up unemployed and broke and this evening they will go to bed still jobless and broke. #MutuaForPresident
Our women, our girls, our sisters, mothers will today still labour like donkeys and will be fetching water from dirty rivers, giving birth on the sides of our roads like wild animals and sleeping hungry so that their children can eat a meal.#MutuaForPresident
Sixty years after independence, the dream of a prosperous Kenya where no one is left behind, where hard work is rewarded FAIRLY and properly and where dreams come true, is still an illusion.#MutuaForPresident
This morning at my office in Matuu, I met grassroot leaders from Masinga Central ward led by their area MCA Tariq Mulatya to discuss pertinent issues relating to the ward.
Our discussion revolved around projects that my government has undertaken in the area, those that are under implementation and a wishlist of programmes that the people of Masinga Central would like us to support them on.
Among the projects that the delegation requested are: 1. Seed fund for women entrepreneurs. 2. Fund to support people with disabilities. 3. Countywide safety training for boda boda riders 4. Wheelchairs for children with disabilities. 5. Livestock market 6. Public works yard
Early this week at Mbiuni shopping centre in Mwala Sub County, I launched a programme for mass distribution of face masks to our people of Machakos to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
Since the first case of the novel Coronavirus was detected and announced in the country, my government of Machakos, without wasting time, embarked on rapid initiatives to contain the spread of the virus including special training for health workers.
We also set up of a 480 bed isolation and treatment centre, earmarking advanced ambulance vans dedicated to the pandemic, improving health facilities and work environment among others.
The rest have been measures focusing on the roles that we the public have to play.
As part of my re-organization of Government to ensure improvement, efficiency & service delivery to Wananchi in Machakos County, I have today made the following changes in my Government.
Despite financial challenges we might encounter during this financial year, wananchi still need and deserve development and service from our public offices. I have made these changes to ensure that all serving in my Cabinet remain attuned to this Clarion call of service.
There will be more changes that will affect other sectors of my government, from Directors, Heads of departments etc. There will be a reshuffle for officers who have overstayed in their dockets so as to get rid of lethargy, as we also promote hardworking and deserving officers.
WHY KENYANS WILL CONTINUE BEING FIRED FROM JOBS EVEN AFTER CORONA:
It is quite concerning when we hear of mass sackings of employees from COVID-19 economic hardships. The main problem is not Covid-19, but the inability of our economy to cushion us during times like these.
Right now, families are hurting and Kenyans are suffering due to lack of money and general hardships in life.
We have, as a society, been primed to place more emphasis on politics and tribal blocs rather than economic freedom and expansion.
Our headlines are about who insulted who, political party formations and clamour for power and not what the politics should achieve - more money in the pockets of Kenyans.
What you talk about, have headlines, top stories and front pages about, is what you ultimately get.
Today I have met Mr. Jiao Xuxue, General Manager China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC) and Mr. Li Changgui, Deputy General Manager of China Communications Construction to discuss ways of facilitating the speedy implementation of the Nairobi Expressway project.
CRBC have entered into a Private-Public Partnership with the National govt to construct the express highway on a Built Operate and Transfer(BOT) arrangement, starting from around Mlolongo to Waiyaki way. Full construction is expected to start in August & completed by June 2022.
We have agreed that Machakos County Government will waive all county revenues charged on construction materials so as to support the mega project.
In return the Company will sub- contract local businesspeople for supply of the various items and materials needed in the project.
