Day 2 #ChauvinTrial thread.
A motion was heard this a.m. on protecting the ID of witnesses who were minors at the time (there are 4).
Judge ruled minors can use first name or initials, but their names are public on witness list. And one has already sought publicity thru media.
Again, here is our compilation of the police dispatch audio from the time of the #GeorgeFloyd incident. The dispatch audio has been referenced several times in the #ChauvinTrial already.
Witness Donald Williams II retakes the stand to continue testimony this morning. Being questioned by prosecutor Matthew Frank (lower right).
(He's continuing to editorialize and opine outside of questions being asked, and judge again reminds him to answer the question only).
Witness Donald Williams was one of the vocal bystanders during the GF incident and has a martial arts background. Prosecution has relied on his experience with "choke" holds.
Chauvin's attorney Eric Nelson is grilling Williams on his wrestling/martial arts background.
Witness Donald Williams is becoming openly antagonistic at the defense's questioning of his repeated name-calling and swearing at officers during the GF incident.
Judge reminds him to answer the questions with yes or no.
The four witnesses who were juveniles at the time of the incident will be questioned in series. The first one is up, she's now 18 (on right in photo), referred to as Darnella. This is the teen who took the bystander video that went viral.
Darnella's 9 yr old cousin is now on the stand (she'll turn 10 next week), on left in picture.
The defense declined to question the 9 year old and she's been excused after being briefly questioned by the prosecution.
Court on break for lunch.
An 18 yr old female witness is now being questioned by a member of the prosecution team, Assistant Attorney General Erin Eldridge (witness was 17 at time of incident).
The witness circled herself in this photo (far left).
A new witness is on the stand, a 17 yr old female. She was with the prior witness, but stayed in the vehicle at first. She's testifying now that she heard George Floyd yelling. She got out of the car after because things "sounded serious." She said GF was then unconscious.
The current 17 yr old witness circled herself in this picture.
Next witness up is Genevieve Hansen, 27, a rookie firefighter who was off duty when she came upon the #GeorgeFloyd scene.
Genevieve Hansen at the scene, circled on left.
Judge asks jury to leave the room and scolds Ms Hansen for being argumentative with the defense and the court.
Tells her not to offer information that was not asked.
Dismisses her for the day, asks her to return Wednesday to resume testimony.
Rachel Jackson has been called into courtroom and being questioned by the Judge. Her phone was seized by deputies because she was taking pictures on the 18th floor. She's a "media representative." 🙄
She's a media handler for the teen witness Darnella Frazier, who testified earlier today.
So, Rachael Jackson is Darnella Frazier's PR person (Darnella is the bystander who shot the viral video at the #GeorgeFloyd incident). Jackson was taking a picture of Darnella and Keith Ellison together. 😶
She's been ordered to delete the picture from her phone.

Day 3 #ChauvinTrial thread.
Minneapolis fire fighter Genevieve Hansen, who was an off-duty bystander at the GF incident, retakes the stand this morning. She was reprimanded by Judge Cahill yesterday for being argumentative with defense & the court.
Witness Christopher Martin, 19, takes the stand. He was living above Cup Foods & was working as cashier at the store on May 25 at the time of the #GeorgeFloyd incident.
Being questioned by prosecution Matthew Frank (lower R. Also pictured: Eric Nelson and #DerekChauvin).
Martin said GF came in to buy cigarettes. Martin conversed with GF and said it took GF a little long to reply and he appeared high.
Store security video being shown of #GeorgeFloyd in the store (R). GF can be seen muttering and shuffling.
MPD confirmation on last night's double shooting in #Dinkytown that resulted in one dead and another hospitalized w/non-life threatening injuries. Three guns were recovered at the scene.
Police not looking for more suspects.
No danger to the public.
ME will ID the fatality.
As a refresher, this is at least the third double shooting in #Dinkytown since the first of the year.
Report of shooting at restaurant. Victim is black male.
4xx 13th Ave SE

Squad 211 arrived, calling Code 4 for EMS.

--Second shooting victim found by police, that one has a gun (recovered by police). CPR started. Possibly the suspect.
During the #GeorgeFloyd riots, @MplsWard4 Phillipe Cunningham posted that KKK members in robes were walking around north Mpls(1) & implied they were responsible for burning buildings & destruction. Today, he doubled down on that assertion in a new doc(2).
2 days after Cunningham's assertion, Dept of Public Safety Commissioner John Harrington was directly asked about it at a presser, & he said there was zero evidence and no verifiable reports of KKK being in Minnesota.
At this point, Cunningham is irresponsibly fomenting division.
If you care to contact Phillipe Cunningham about his attempt to irresponsibly foment division and his continued effort to continue to spread officially debunked information to enflame discontent:
