I didn’t know what to expect from the @HBO film on Q and #Jan6 by @CullenHoback. But he managed to get at the network, and followed the facts. It comports with my own work on this subject, which provides additional context without contradiction.

davetroy.medium.com/the-big-histor…
And I am also happy to report that both the @Vice and @HBO documentaries covering these subjects are in alignment with this program we did in October, which I believed would be the first broad description of this network. That turned out to be correct.

What so many have failed to see is the complex and emergent nature of this networked insurgency. I am pleased reality is asserting itself, but there is so much more we need to do to tell this story. We need to inoculate the population so this doesn’t happen again.
There are so many more stories to tell; interesting ones, too. There is a reason that non-print storytelling forms are doing a better job at exposing this than the newspapers did. In fact, there is almost no information shared in these recent works that wasn’t known to media.
One problem is impossible complexity. It is very easy to overrun people’s capacity to absorb names, dates, and relationships. Another problem: what’s the newspaper story equivalent of a three or six hour documentary filmed over months or years?
Complexity was used as a defense to prevent these stories from being exposed for months and in some cases years. And it is being used now to delay expansion of disinformation campaigns underway right now. This is our OODA loop vulnerability and we have fixed nothing.
When the next attack happens, it will take us months to figure out what took place. And when we figure that out, the next attack will already be underway. We have got to get better at detecting this kind of activity *in real time.* That means tracking networks of bad actors.
It also means shutting down people running interference for bad actors so as to buy more time. This may be a combination of witting and unwitting accomplices. This network had both.

Heads up: If you knowingly help bad actors delay detection, we are going to make you stop.
It is difficult but by no means impossible to disrupt these kinds of operations. And at some point these tricks run out of power. How many iterations of this will people fall for before they are cured of it? Some will, obviously.
But for those of you who say this can not be addressed: no. This is not different from the virus. We can and must make fringe ideas fringe again. We can curb their spread and amplification. We can get the rate of transmission below 1.0.
Right now infections of harmful viral beliefs are raging out of control. And people are rewiring their social networks around them, with real long-term effects. “Long QAnon” is every bit as harmful a concept as “long COVID.”

People have a right to live free of undue influence.
Anyway, all in all I think there is a great deal of hope in seeing reality assert itself. This was a dumb op executed by people with specific goals. It’s something we can address. But we have to get real about what it is and who all is behind it.

🧵 1/The biggest sleight of hand pulled by “Q” was to imply the existence of a top-down hierarchy when, in fact, it was an emergent networked insurgency.

Washington and the media think in terms of org charts. Instead this was a supple, shape-shifting effort.
2/So everyone was asking “who is Q” when the better question was “what is this network and how does it work?” Flynn and the other military folks who became involved in this had experience with this kind of insurgency. They knew they could get networks to do things.
3/One might want to see a certain message get out to a network; tell some mullahs, and maybe that happens. Maybe your work gets done for you, through the power of suggestion. Maybe minor celebrities emerge who each are pulling in the same direction.

Today I heard Randal Quarles of the US Financial Stability Board defend the fact that the US is not yet pursuing a sovereign-backed digital currency, saying he doesn’t see what role it can fill.
In my opinion the role it needs to fulfill is as competition against wild variants, and with those being created by China and the Eurozone. If this is not addressed, the entire financial sector will be targeted for manipulation with the spoils going to wild crypto.
A lot of people will be hurt if that happens. And they explicitly cited the risk to the financial sector. But I think they underestimate it. There are explicit campaigns to manipulate stocks, crypto, and fiat currency using social media.

I've expanded the documentation for my recent "Big History" of #Jan6 series and related tweet threads.

Here's 26 pages of receipts, backstory, resources for storytellers, and an expanded bibliography. A work in progress, but this is the big story. docs.google.com/document/d/1gl…
I've also decided to make all of my work on this available free under the Creative Commons attribution license. Anyone may share and repurpose this work, with appropriate credit, and it's important it is discussed and shared. As Nancy MacLean has noted, democracy is threatened.
I would like to kindly urge those looking for answers in internet ephemera and daily political drama to engage with the important historical themes that are in play here. We can unwind this, but we must become more fully aware of the strategic underpinnings behind it.

It’s worth noting that when Nancy MacLean published “Democracy in Chains” in 2017, she was subject to a barrage of unwarranted personal attacks by those who wished for the curtain she pulled back to remain closed. But being right is its own reward.

nytimes.com/2017/08/15/boo…
MacLean, a consummate scholar, whose book was published by Duke University Press spent 10 years researching her subject. Pushback on it directed at NPR was based not on the substance of her work, but the fact their review of it was done by a novelist.

The Koch ‘interrelated plays’ strategy depends on the public’s ignorance of it. Anyone who shines light on it is going to be subject to attacks of all kinds. When there is no substantive attack, attacks will be in bad-faith and ad hominem.

Expect that as you share this message.

So, people that write about January 6th and Q-related topics: I’m going to need to hear you start talking about libertarianism, sovereign individual, the gold standard, cryptocurrency. This is way beyond some kooky online behavior; it’s a long term play to disrupt nation states.
It’s a play to prop up cryptocurrencies as an alternative to central banks and to destabilize fiat currencies. It’s designed to upend the ‘stonk’ market and destroy wealth held in dollars. It will be very, very harmful if not contained now. Is anyone even listening?
If this plan goes to completion (and there is no reason it won’t, if we don’t stop it) it will collapse multilateral alliances and lead to modern feudalism and authoritarian control. One can argue whether we are already there now, for the most part.

😳 Wow, so an astute reader found the full program for the Schlafly Eagles 2019 event. The one that featured Ali Alexander, Scott Presler, Carpe Donktum, Steve Bannon, et al... read for a full understanding of the #CNP mindset 13 months prior to #Jan6. phyllisschlafly.com/council/
Notable: China as the big enemy. Cassandra Fairbanks on “fighting fake news.” 🤪 Juan Guandolo, who would go on to amplify the #Jan6 siege. Hungary and Poland Nazis in the house, too. So many other usual suspects too. newsweek.com/right-wing-act…
And this is fun: the Homemaker of the Year Award goes to.... Mrs. Cindy Biggs, wife of January 6th insurrectionist, AZ Rep. Andy Biggs! 👀 #StandByYourMan

And it’s good to see Jack Singlaub’s name on all this too... the OG OSS Jedburgh Gold Bug!
