The fire part is not just a wake up call, but a challenge to Kenya as regards NATIONAL PREPAREDNESS & Actions Needed to Address Gaps in the Nation’s Emergency Management Capabilities. But is any of you in the leadership positions at the least bit concerned ?
@NDOCKenya It's current operational status aside is supposed to have a National Prep'dness System to help assess the nation’s emergency management capabilities in preparing for disasters &, in part, to help prioritize sectoral cross cutting Disaster Mgmt leadership, but does it?
With the 2021/22 National Budget 2 Months away. Were @KeTreasury tasked to examine National Prep'dness vide funds previous allocated if any. & as a pointer towards the Uhuru Kenyatta regime's success thereof. What would they report with honesty though a rarity in Kenya ?
Would their report have any examination on the extent to which: (1) @NDOCKenya National Prep'dness System & associated prep'dness grants if any, have assisted jurisdictions in preparing for disasters? (2) Strengthening of the National Prep'dness System & what steps remain?
My hypothesis aside, they would have nothing to report since Disaster Risk Mgmt, has never been a priority. Especially since our ''Mungu atasaidia'', prayers & media circus for political mileage & celebritism always come in handy to fool Wanjiku. But what of when Wanjiku awakes?
@NDOCKenya is supposed to helped build Emergency Mgmt capabilities, but whether the Govt sees it or not , gaps remain. (1) Prevention—preventing imminent incidents (2) Protection—protecting citizens & assets, (3) mitigation—mitigating the loss of life & property,
(4) Response—responding quickly to save lives, & (5) recovery—timely restoration of infrastructure & social economic wellbeing among various other day to day aspects important to the livelihood of Kenya's common person aka, Wanjiku.
1. PREPAREDNESS-:
Were the Russian hospital fire part of the scenario, to visit @KNH_hospital, how prepared are we ? Start with emergency accessibility. Traffic Hqs leading to main Bus Stop, Mbagathi Way rear entry or MTC route Opposite Kenyatta stage. How accessible are they?
Hoping a responding team has miraculously made it to the fire ground zero, an operation theatre or the wards. What kind of melee, would they encounter, especially with the evacuation of patients from the wards ?
As for the @KNH_hospital fire prep'dness, would their system help?
At the risk of being branded a doom peddler, let us honestly look at the mess @KNH_hospital is emergency prep'dness speaking & the disaster in waiting it certainly remains. What kinda catastrophe do we want ?
Is the new sheriff @NMS_Kenya, capable of saving the day ?
Before her elevation as Ag. Gov'nor @annkananu_ handled Nairobi' DRM's portfolio after devolution for a better part of 2 years. Did she oversee any plans for such an occurrence or it will never happen since, we pray daily. Has her former Dept ever conducted any drills on such ?
Without a National Prep'dness System outlining an organized process moving efforts forward, & leading to the achievement of would be safety goals ? That chance ended up making politically correct billionaires. @ajfactual52@alaminkimathi@mlimakenya@RasnaWarah@JerotichSeii
National Preparedness System
It normally outlines an organized process for everyone in the whole community or stakeholding, to move forward with their prep'dness activities & achieve the National Preparedness Goal. (If there is any set).
Six Parts of the National Preparedness System 1. Identifying & Assessing Risk
First, collect historical & recent data on existing, potential, perceived threats & hazards. The results of these risk assessments form the basis for the remaining steps.
@ProfPLOLumumba What you are suggesting Prof has the potential to make an important contribution to regional economic growth & development. Air transport can open, connect markets, facilitate trade & enable East African firms to link into global supply chains. But our Honcho & their Egos? Thread
@ProfPLOLumumba Your idea can play an especially pivotal role in just-in-time, manufacturing production, in speeding fresh produce from agricultural communities within regional economies to markets in the industrialised world. But again our Honchos & their egos ? @waluwande@mlimakenya
@ProfPLOLumumba@waluwande@mlimakenya Recognizing these egos & their restrictions to growth, came the Yamoussoukro Declaration in 1999. & With it an agreement committing 44 signatory countries to deregulating air services & to promoting regional air markets opening to transnational competition. 22 years later ?
@NAkufoAddo Mr. President. A belated happy 77th birthday wish to you Sir. I am not Ghanaian, but though of Arab descent, is African, Kenyan to be precise. I have a severe allergy for rhetoric, & political maleficence.
When you talk sustainable development, what exactly do you mean? Thread-
@NAkufoAddo I have heard of the UN MDG's their sustainable development condiments & now the @AfricanUnion has come up with its own writ to the band wagon. The 2063 agenda. At 12 yrs your jnr. I ain't sure both of us will be around for it;s fruition. Thus allow me to ask,who are we fooling?
@NAkufoAddo@AfricanUnion Before we even begin to imagine, define. tabulate, understand or even assimilate this sustainable development foreign devil. Let us look at how Africa as a Continent is protecting the development all the 54 or so States have accrued, since attaining individual independence ?
Let's skip Covid-19 for now & redress the fire bit, in which all our hospitals & health facilities for that matter are sitting ducks. Remember the Coast Gen & Msa Hosp fires of 2019 ? Did we learn anything ? @Hitlerlaw2@AbdillahiTaib@africaupdates
@InteriorKE@IG_NPS 2 years line since its inception, guarding duties & scarecrow deterrence techniques & Al Shabaab's passion for targeting Comms towers in North Eastern aside. What has the CIPU achieved to aid the bigger National Security picture ? @ajfactual52@alaminkimathi
Critical infrastructure being the various physical, systems & assets vital to Kenya. Where their incapacitation or destruction has a debilitating impact on our physical, economic security, public health & or safety. What has the CIPU achieved especially without proper backing?
I dare say proper backing, simply because the yester years NDOC Kenya now rather defunct thanks to @FredMatiangi's genius is a dead horse, & would have for starters have served as a lead agency in policy formulation & coordination functionalities @Anon1KENYA@chothep@BasilioCC
