Here’s how @webflow changed
my entire web design business.

A THREAD //
About 2.5 years ago, I’d found out about @webflow from a video by @ransegall on YouTube.

Now, at first I was skeptical.

“Meh, just another site builder without full control, this looks ok. Let me stick to Wordpress and be on my way.
Then, I saw a few more videos and was a bit intrigued:

- ok, no plugins, not bad
- custom databases and CMS, cool
- designer and editor look interesting...

Know what, I gotta rebuild my personal site, let me just try this out...

So, I headed to the template platform...
I figured I’d start with a template I liked and see how it goes, but first I dove into Webflow University to learn all the fundamentals.

The great thing is it’s based on fundamental web design principles HTML and CSS…
I’ll admit, it’s a bit of a challenging when you come in fresh, but after a couple of hours, I was getting the hang of it.

The UI is clean and simple to use. Plus, if you’ve used any builders before, you’ll probably have an easy time navigating the Designer.
Then, I started building my site with a template from the @webflow database.

Talented designers basically create a repository of beautiful templates you can use to build out functional websites.

Note: this is a great way to get your feet
After building it out in a few days with an existing template, I realized how seamless the process was.

Animations and interactions could be created easily, the Designer had tons of resources and videos on training and I was hooked. I built out 3 more websites in weeks.
Duplicating pages, SSL setup, site launches, site speed, no bloat and amazing resources like @Flowbaseco had me like 😳😳😳.

This fr? 😅

This is gonna sound corny, but website development became an exciting part of the process AGAIN.
Now, I wanted to try it on a client site. I think we’d honed our chops enough to work on a small project so I pitched the client on Webflow and they were down.

We went through our normal process of brand discovery, design, wireframes etc.
when it came to development we usually allocate 3 to 4 weeks.

This go around we were dev’d in a week. Now, we had extra time for Q&A.

We took that time to refine our process and create SOP‘s for updates in webflow settings. Like this:
At this point, ya boy was fired up. 🔥🔥

I took every training and course I could get my hands on, building systems for our processes so I could hire and train Webflow Devs on the team.

I joined the FB group, asked questions & worked on joining Experts and Template platforms.
I got denied a few times in #WebflowExperts and they said I wasn’t ready yet.

So, worked more, built out more projects and was one of less than 60 agencies in the world with the credentials.

Then, worked on creating templates for the marketplace. I was addicted, fam.
Around this time I was knee-deep in Webflow.

Then, #webflow raised a ton of money, tech companies found out how amazing the platform was, and I started to get a ton of leads from the expert platform.
I was also creating a ton of content! Articles, YouTube Vids, Freebies, Templates...This allowed us to 2x the agency because we were exclusively offering Webflow services to clients.
This content compounded and we started to receive consistent lead flow!

The best part about all this is that we were also able to get sites indexed pretty quickly with the clean code, especially working with fresh startups.
Ultimately, @webflow improved my agency, allowing us to focus on bringing startup ideas to life with medium barrier to entry.

While there are some amazing website platforms that continue to innovate and thrive like Wordpress, I think we’ve found our niche!

1. Segment Your Email Accounts

I like Google Workplace. It's easy to setup and super cheap. About $5.99 per email. Setup your accounts with Google and segment your accounts accordingly.
2. Use google Chrome as Your Primary Browser.

It has a cheat code called Profiles where u can separate ur accounts pretty easily. In other words, you can dedicate a window to each email profile u have. Bookmarks, history & all are saved...

Passive income is possible, but it takes a lot of upfront work. For anyone looking to diversify and create additional revenue streams, I have a few tips (pic is from today for reference).
1. Develop revenue streams based on your main product.

We create websites and brand identities for clients, so other income streams are based on that including:

- website templates
- illustrations
- hosting management
This allows us to leverage existing skill sets to create digital products.

Example: we worked w a prospect who was a VC and learned a lot about the industry. This allowed us to create a @webflow template based on analysis.

We can then go and sell that template forever.

I get questions from other #webdesigners on how to diversify their income without having to start a new business.

Here's my advice:

/ A THREAD
1. Develop Your Processes

I know, I know I talk about this a lot, but it's crucial.

Write down EVERY SINGLE DAMN STEP of each task your perform or delegate in your business and create screencaps. It's your blueprint and the best way to scale your efforts.
With web design, you'll have amazing months and you'll have ok ones. once you start to build your systems, you can create other income opportunities from your agency.

Here's how:

My online course just got $100k, so I wanted to provide the keys to creating a quality online course. 🔑

A thread💯

1. Never ASSUME what your potential students want.

Create a google doc with each module and curriculum written out, it doesn’t have to be super detailed.
Here’s a brief breakdown.

Send this doc to potential students with a link to a google form and ask basic questions like:

🔑 would you take this course?
🔑 what’s missing?

Record your responses in a google sheet for later use.
When potential students say things are missing, edit your google doc to include popular curriculum and things needed.

2. Create a page to capture pre-sales

For those that said “hell yeah” create a landing page to capture them. Ask for a small deposit. $7 works.

Thinking about starting up another e-com biz.

Here are some my favorite resources
for research:

1. ExplodingTopics.com - this tool scours the internet to find exploding trends before they take off.

It even organizes by category & searches, convos & mentions online.
2. Google Search + Keywords Everywhere

#KeywordsEverywhere is a chrome extension.

Via search it will tell you how many monthly searches keywords gets & if it’s competitive. You want to find the perfect combo:

High Search Volume + Low Competition.
3. #GoogleTrends

Trends make it easy to analyzes the popularity of top search queries in Google Search across various regions and languages.

It’s a great visualization of potential business ideas. For example, here’s one I did based on search:

Uncertainty.

It’s got a lot of us worried, fearful and I indecisive.

Many of us are working remotely, some of us have lost our jobs and many people are fearful.

I want to talk about an additional way to make money w upfront work, and passive income on the back end.

A THREAD
1. Online Courses

I believe anyone with talent can turn that talent into an online education program.

With so many folks working remotely & leveraging a bit of time on their hands, it’s a good time for them to learn a skill they can execute quickly.

You can fill that void.
I have 2 courses. All of my additional content is free. To start, I suggest two course types:

Low Cost - $100 or less
High Cost - $499+

You should be providing free content consistently. It should provide ACTIONABLE RESULTS. No fluff. It’s a great way to develop your audience.
