CJI SA Bobde led special bench hears a case regarding the recommendations for #judgesappointment pending with the Centre

AG KK Venugopal: A decision with regard to pending 10 names will be communicated in three months.

CJI: Centre says a decision with regard to names pending for more than 6 months after recommendation ( 5 names from Calcutta, 1 name from j&k and one name from Delhi) will be taken in 3 months.

CJI:Decision will be communicated to this court

CJI:Mr attorney I think this case can be brought a conclusion if Centre tells us the timeline (convenient to govt) which will adhered to each stage of judges appointment.

AG:timeline has to be fixed for HCs to make recommendations

Justice Kaul: we need to know the timeline by Centre to respond to Supreme Court collegium recommendations and the other time line is with respect to High Courts. please intimate the timeline to us in the next date of hearing

CJI: we are not reviewing any appointments or judicial appointments. we just want to know the timeline in which the government and judiciary will proceed with respect to judges appointment.

Senior Adv Singh: please pass orders on Supreme Court lawyers being considered for elevation as judges.

CJI: since i have been part of Supreme Court collegium every top court collegium considers lawyers from Supreme Court and forwards that name

Adv Sneha Kalita mentions the case which seeks to appoint women supreme court lawyers as judges in high courts with low number of women judges

CJI: we think the time has come for Women Chief Justice of India.

Kalita: MoP does not have a whisper on women judges being appointed

CJI: experience of Chief Justice of High Courts stated that when judges are asked to come in the bench they deny saying they have domestic responsibility or their children are in class 11 or 12 and thus these things have been communicated to me.

CJI: we have the interest of women in mind, there is no attitudinal changes in us. only that we need capable candidates.

Adv Shobha Gupta for SCWLA: supreme court lawyers have to be considered for judgeship.

CJI: we will deliberate what to say. case closed. No notice issued in the plea by Supreme Court Women Lawyers Association
