1) For 13 months continuously, Maharashtra is in news as the worst performing state when it comes to Corona Virus control. Every single month!
Other states got spikes, panic, reliefs, plateaus etc., but if there is one state that was on the top of COVID cases list, it was MH.
2) Here is a recap:
In April Maharashtra became the first state in India to cross the 1000 COVID cases mark.
By May, MH topped 50,000 mark.
By June, MH overtook China, where the Wuhan origin virus originated.
By July, 3 lakh mark reached. Lockdown was mostly in effect still..
3) By August, politics was in full force, terming Maharashtra as the COVID capital of India.
By Sept, MH crossed the infamous 1 million mark. 25% of India's cases.
Even in October, MH was extending lockdown.
By November, cases were slowing, but still MH was India's chart buster.
4) By December, one in three cases in India were in Maharashtra again.
By January 2021, MH had crossed the next scary milestone of 2 million mark.
By February, things started getting worse. Active cases started going up.
By March, MH was the only state with 1 lakh active cases.
5) By April 2021, things totally out of control with 60,000+ cases per day. 63,729 yesterday - the highest ever!
Yes, people mention politics, urbanization, discipline, testing numbers etc.. but what is the core reason? Why is Maharashtra the worst performing,13 months in a row?

1) In @VVani4U newspaper, ace columnist Prem Shekhar gives an interesting timeline in a column titled "Farmer Protest or Chinese 5G battle":
Will give key translation.
5-Jun-2020: The centre promulgated three ordinances for the new farm laws. No big protest anywhere.
2)
15-Jun-2020: Small protest in Tamil Nadu by farmer unions - Viju Krishnan.
9-Jul-2020: Mike Pompeo of US Government praises Reliance Jio of India, as "Clean Telco". USA thrashed Huawei for being "tools of the Communist Party of China surveillance state".

Pays ZERO direct income tax. Keeps 100% of his income to himself, while enjoying many benefits from the govt in the form of subsidy, MSP..
Of course pays GST & other indirect tax.
3) Tax Daata Basavaraj who pays most of the expenses of army, irrigation, road building, police, hospitals, schools etc. with his (& company's corporate tax), is viewed with disdain, while Anna daata Baljit who pays only a fraction of tax (GST..), is glorified when blocking roads!
1) PM @narendramodi would be remembered by the future generations as the head of a government which built the largest railway infrastructure in India, since the British left in 1947!
2) Dedicated Freight Corridor or #DFC is a total of 2843 km in length in two branches.
1839 km Eastern DFC From Sohnewal in Punjab till Dankuni in West Bengal.
1500 km Western DFC from Dadri in Uttar Pradesh to JNPT in Mumbai, Maharashtra.
3) 70% of the freight trains currently running on the Indian Railway network, will shift to the dedicated freight corridors, creating enormous scope for new passenger trains!!
A gem of an column today in #ET by Praveen Singh Pardeshi.
Some interesting numbers in below tweets on how the new #FarmLaws2020 should help the poor farmers of India big time.
...
1) 80% of India's farms are < 2 hectares. They can become richer by forming Farmer Producer Companies (FPCs).
In Maharashtra 10,000 grape, vegetable & tomato farmers work with Sahyadri Agro Farms, which directly markets their produce to Tesco in Europe. Setup cold storage too.
2) 6900 mandis of India havs monopoly to buy goods from 14,50,00,000 farmer families, and sell to 130,00,00,000 consumers!
In Karnataka, a unified agri market has already led to 5.1% increase in agri goods price, with profit margins of small farmers increasing by 39 to 159%!
1) Postal ballots heavily in favour of BJP. Almost 65% of seats had BJP leading during Postal ballot counting. Government workers are turning against the ruling party TRS. This is significant.
...
#GHMC: 2) Cong has less wins/leads than the number of fingers on its hand symbol! Remember Congress ruled undivided AP from Hyderabad for decades.
3) No more screaming of "EVM fraud". BJP increasing its tally by almost 11 fold, even on paper ballots (EVM not used due to COVID)!
#GHMCResults2020: 4) TRS won Telangana in 2014 as a reward for new state. TRS gobbled up TDP & Congress and decimated opposition. So 2018 was a big win.
Now BJP is an alternative to TRS. 2019, 2020 Dubakka & now 2020 GHMC showing results. Clearly, honeymoon period over for TRS.
1) In US, all you need is about a dozen big states to become the President. Even there, all you need is coming number 1 (usually 50% votes, but rarely less also will do when more than 2 contestants are there).
That means, you need to win half of these 11 states. Read on...
2) You don't need a single vote in the other 39 states (& DC)! Because winner takes it all in 48 states. So technically you can become the President with just 50% (or close) votes of 22% of states!
California 55
Texas 38
FL 29
NY 29
IL 20
PA 20
Ohio 18
GA 16
MI 16
NC 15
NJ 14
..
3) If Electoral College system is applied to India, all you needed was to win half (or come 1st) in these 6 big states. Don't need a single LS seat from other 22 states & 8 UTs! So can become PM by winning 50% (or less) of 16% of States/UTs.
